correct, a psu for your system won't be that much, and why risk it on a junk ultra? i wouldn't be surprised if this "400w" psu is actually a 250w at realistic conditions, and it will not last long running so close to its max output. a quality 450w psu will be fine, but emphasis on quality...

Is this Dell build a good choice for me?

are you set on dell? me and my friend found this website, avadirect.com, and he built a very nice system for 1300 bucks. you get more customization options, and you don't get charged out the wazzoo for upgrades like ram.

Current CPU still up to par for DX10 games?

keep the cpu, theres very little need to upgrade. also, remember in a few months when dx10 games start coming out, dx10 is alot less cpu dependant than dx9.

AMD 65nm doesnt seem to be too hot

amd already has the process, although it is nowhere near allowing 5ghz clocks, thats just absurd. it already uses it on 90nm, thats how fx74 and the upcoming 3.2ghz chip can exist on 90nm, its called sige, or silicon germanium, adds 40% transistor performance, which ofcourse does not translate...

and exactly how are they able to prove you overclocked? besides, cpus are the least of your problems when it comes to warranty, they either come doa, or they work, unless you decide to overvolt them to the nth degree.

Starting Prime95 Freezes System

sanrda and memtest are possibly the single worst tests of stability out there. 3dmark stability is a good sign though. run a few loops of 3dmark, and its as good as anything. also, you can try sp2004, its basically an updated version of prime95, and see if that works out better.

If Intel releases another Hyperthreading cpu does that mean another inefficient cpu is coming our way?

nehalem, which will likely be a core 2 based design, will have a new implementation of smt. it will not be like netburst's smt, and might actually do the opposite of what hyperthreading did, but intel is bringing back smt, no mistake about it.

better than enermax is really pushing it... its a decent psu though, and probably not your problem. are you runing two instances of prime 95 by the way? that is a requirement if you have a dual core cpu, as prime95 is not multi-threaded. running two instances is easy, make two folders, call one...

its kind of funny that the law states that bikers shouldnt ride on the sidewalk, but the times i was anywhere near getting hit by a bike was on the road... in the city, you cant really see these a-holes, and they dont slow down near a crosswalk, so i step out many times, since a parked car...

hmm, it seems windows is just corrupt. it happened because it was paging to the hard drive when you turned it off initially. theres no way to reinstall hal.dll, you just need to do a reformat, and reinstall. hal.dll is an image of your hardware, and it can only be created during a windows...

theres no way the line is actually at 5v, its just a misread. i would run a few hardware tests like prime95 or superpi to make sure everything is stable.

conroe might bring intel some immediate satisfaction, but from quad core on, intel is in a tough spot, until it will use csi. k8l is amd's answer to conroe, amd doesnt want to break its product cycle, so itll have to be behind for a few months, it can care less in the long term.

How long will an opteron 165/170 live at 2.6ghz?

ive never even seen a cpu fail. ive played around with 386s in the computer shop a few weeks ago, and the cpu is fine, when half the controllers on the mobo have failed.

no, you dont need the adapter. did you plug in the square 12v connector, that has 4 pins, but isnt a molex into the mobo?

Whats better 2T or 1T for RAM

if even that much. anarticle, maybe even here on anandtech, showed that ram with lower latency and 2t still beat out 1t cas 2.5 ram, so the difference is even less than cas timings, and thats already pretty widely known to be insignificant.
