So long ago:
IBM PC
CPU - 8088 at (can anyone remember?) something like 3.77 MHz (is that right?)
640K RAM
2 5.25" FDD - no HDD
Sound? an internal speaker that only "beeped"
Green monochrome IBM monitor
Graphics - uhh, text
OS - DOS - version "very early"
That great IBM DOS manual in...
Yes - I'm very happy with that 58 C. although I don't play the most intense games (TW golf mostly).
Specs for the 540J list max case temp as 68 C so anything above that isn't good.
Concur with Zepper. I just switched to this PSU this weekend:

I was able to improve my cable management quite a bit and it dropped my temps by about 4 degrees C. So, it pays to make sure you've got the best possible airflow...
I tried the Freezer7 and it was not as good as the stock HSF that came with my 540J. That surprised me. I'm now using this Gigabyte and it dropped my temps by 6 - 8 C:

I think in the end you just have to try a few and use the...
As volrath said, sure, but you won't gain much in the way of performance, and you have the disadvantage of losing all your data if one of the drives fails. Most users don't really benefit from RAID 0.
Anyone ever used one of these custom watercooled cases? Not all of them cost as much as this one, but they're all pretty pricey. Is do it yourself better/cheaper?
Absolutely agree with Jester. The stock HSF that came with my Prescott 540J did an adequate job. But now I'm using the Gigabyte model for socket 775 with the 108 mm fan (see the link in my 8/4/2005 post). It does an even better job by 8-10 C. Keeps temps in the 40s and 50s C even when the...
I have a P4 540J and don't oc (much). The best air cooling I gotton so far (tried several) is with a Gigabyte GH-ED521 HSF. The 108 mm fan can crank up to about 3750 rpm and gives me 8-10 C lower than either the stock HSF or an AC freezer7 - idle in the 40s C, game in the 50s. Room temp 75-80F.
Hi all. Just wanted to post some info on a recent improvement. Been having the same trouble as everyone else cooling my P4 540J. Used the stock HSF and an AC freezer7 with equal results: idle in the 50s, medium load (TW2005) in the 60s with a summer room temp around 80F. Thermaltake Tsunami...
I think newegg is great - I buy lot's from them. It always pays to compare prices, but one stop shopping for big orders can be a big advantage and maybe worth a little extra. Generally, I find the pricing to be pretty competitive. The availabilty, order efficiency and fast shipping make it a...
Used this case for my last build - the model with 2 fans and no window. As everyone says, it is roomy - even with 2 opticals, a FDD, 3 HDDs and a pretty big freezer7 HSF in there - plenty of room for managing cables. The fans are ok - large and well located. Have had no problems at all -...
Hi all from a forum newbie. Have seen some discussion on P4 prescott temps - here's my experience:
P4 540J 3.2GHz 800 MHz FSB on an MSI 915P Neo2 Platinum mobo (not oc'd) in a Thermaltake Tsunami Mid ATX case (no window) with 2 stock 120mm fans. Replaced Intel stock fan/heatsink with an Artic...
