Using TV as a second monitor...

I have a 1024x768 projector as a computer monitor, and I think it absolutely rules for video games and movies. All my friends agree. I assume a big screen HDTV would also be pretty awesome. Nothing like gaming on the big screen! These days you can get an HD projector for less than $2000...

Videophiles Unite.

There is no such thing as 1080i native on a projector, since all projectors are "progressive scan" (i.e., every pixel is illuminated all the time). Also, every projector these days can convert 720p and 1080i to its native resolution. I recommend 720p since there really aren't too many 1080p...

8 pipelines enough?

The 6600GT is a reasonable upgrade in performance over a 9700 pro, but it's only a great deal these days if you can find it for $130 or less (there's plenty on ebay). Otherwise, it is much better to spend $10 or $20 more to get an X800 with more pipes, like this 12-pipe X800 128MB for $149...

SAPPHIRE X850XT@ $390? any good?

If you have an X800XL, then you should not spend anywhere near $400 for an X800/X850XT PE. This upgrade is only worth about $50-75 IMO, and XLs are going right now for about $230. If it were my dollars, I would hold onto the XL until I found a killer deal on an XTPE or 6800 Ultra for <$300...

Projectors? LCD? DLT? Which is best for home theater setup?

For my new build, a 7800GTX is in the budget, but should i just go with a 6800GT as I am limited to 1280x1024

To reiterate others' comments, the 7800GTX will make a noticeable difference on FEAR (and probably other upcoming games) even at lower resolutions. My x850xtpe did not play the FEAR demo all that smoothly, even at medium settings at 1024x768 (with AA/AF). It was OK, but not silky smooth. The...

6800nu vs. 6800gt

The 6800NU is not all that future-proof except at lower resolutions with no AA/AF. But if you are OK with that, then the 6800NU should last you for quite a while, probably ~2 years. For the next couple years, game developers will need to make sure their games are playable on today's popular...

Worth the upgrade?

I personally think it's worth the $100 upgrade for the 256MB and 16 pipes, but it really depends on your cash situation. Source-based games like HL2 really fly on my X800 XL at max settings (although my projector is limited to 1024x768). IMO $250 for an X800 XL is the best bang for buck in the...

TONIGHT'S WOOT InFocus ScreenPlay 7200 DLP High Definition Projector $2199

The Infocus 7200 has the older HD2 DLP chip as opposed to the newer and better HD2+ chip, which is in the Infocus 7205 model. The HD2 and HD2+ chips both have the same 720p resolution, but the HD2+ has better colors or something. Nowadays there should be a few HD2+ models in the $2000-3000...

Dell 8100 Dimension Video Card Upgrade

Look around on this forum and in the hot deals forum. There's plenty of suggestions. At ~$150 I would suggest the nvidia geforce 6600 GT or the 6800. These are much, much better performers than the radeon 9600. There is currently a hot deal on a 6600 GT for about $115 in the hot deals...
