What to do with second, old system?

I would install Kubuntu on it (It rocks) and learn linux. But if you don't do that with it, set up a file server for yourself. And if you can't find anything else to do with it, give it to me, my little brother's computer just fried and now he is fuckedd cuz I don't live in the same house as him...

I just bought a new SATA Hard Drive and as soon as I plug it in, I restarted my computer. Normally, it takes around 30 seconds to hit the Windows XP log in screen, but after putting in my SATA HD, it will Hang on a black screen for about 4-6 minutes before it goes to the Windows XP loading...

My ATI AIW 9600XT is dying, fan whining bad

I had a 9600 XT that occasionally wailed or sounded like something was wrong with it, but all i did to fix it was was stick my finger under the video card and touch the center of the fan, fixed it till forever. It seemed that the fan would make that noise when i bumped up against my case or...

Slow redraws and overall speed after Radeon 9600 install

Yeah, my initial thought when seeing this is that there was a problem with the cooling. I had a friend recently that told me of a problem like this and I told him that it might be something with cooling, not sure how it turned out though, I guess I should follow up... :D

w00t. I went ahead and took everything apart and reassembled it all. IT continued to happen but I went ahead and tried resetting CMOS and it worked. Thanks for the tips guys!

I tried resetting CMOS, any length on how long to keep the battery out? I have never done that before. I unplugged power cord, removed battery, then used the jumper pins to reset, then put the battery back on, plugged power cord, and same thing happens. Fans come on, hds i can tell are on but...

By the way, I can not even see the BIOS cycle, it is just nothing at all. I tried switching from DVI to VGA connection types, but to no avail.

windows vista beta 1 and games?

I had no trouble installing at all. I just used the virtual drive that I have and it installed perfect. It rebooted itself and stayed on this one screen for about 15 minutes, maybe that where you thought it froze. It doesn't really freeze there, just does something.

XP Pro partitioning recommendations request

I would give the OS partition about 30-40 gigs. Use the storage partition to store everything (obviously) should keep you from having to use alot of space on the C: that you would use for software, etc.But, i guess it also depends on hwo many progs you want to isntall. I just lost my C...

remember you need a linux ext2 partition. or is it ext3? i used ext3 when i had slax. if your "newly formatted HD" is ntfs... well obviously... That would be almost as funny as that time that I forgot to assign a file system to my HD and wondered why it wasn't showing up... lol. That was 5...

can't get to my bios at startup

Try just hitting the delete key constantly on start up, perhaps that will work. Delete is the most used way to enter BIOS i believe, and F2. Try tapping on those repeatedly during startup until its obvious it did or didnt go into bios.

I used Partition Magic yesterday to format a linux ext 3 partition last night and turned it into an NTFS partition because I wanted to install another operating system on that partition. Either way, I let it run and it formatted and reallocated (I think at least) but not my computer wont boot...
