Help with setting monitor resolution

Well I already have the latest Nvidia drivers and I've already tried some older ones as well. Does anyone else have trouble using 1680x1050 on 195.62 drivers?

1600x1200, but monitor displays a warning if I use it. So I use 1600x1024 instead. Unfortunately both resolutions look like crap compared to the native resolution.. text is blurry, etc.

Very high memory latency

i forgot to mention the RAM is 166 MHz (DDR 333) and the CPU is 200 MHz. with everything stock I get 180-ish

I just plugged in a 2.8E into my 865PE system to replace my 2.26B and the memory latency according to Everest skyrockted. It used to be around 100 ns, now it's over 200 ns. It seems the higher I clock the CPU, the more it goes up. At the stock speed of 2.8 GHz (200 MHz FSB) with memory running...

i did some googling and im unclear as to whether Intel "Yona" is for desktops or laptops? i found merom was for laptops. plus, all websites seem to say that socket M2 will be out in 2H 2006, not first quarter :(.

yeah, there will always be a next big thing, but there are good times to wait and bad times to wait. right now i dont know if it's a bad time to wait for the next gaming platform, or just buy a A64 + socket 939.

How well could i run BF2 with these upgrades?

X800XL > X800 Pro. X800XL has 16 pipes, X800Pro has 12. if you can't afford an X800XL, then get a 6800 and hope you can flash it to a 6800GT. plus, i would recommend 1.5 GB of RAM. i might be the only one, but 1 GB has so many stutters for me it's almost unplayable. 1.5 GB is totally smooth...

are you saying that i cannot run the RAM at 200 MHz using a 133 MHz chip when running at stock speeds simply because there is no divider for it, or that the chipset does not allow RAM to run at or above 200 MHz when using a 133 MHz FSB even if there is a divider that will allow it to be done...

333 for the divider works as well... but i dont want to underclock it, i want to use 400 so that the RAM would run at rated speed. i already have the latest BIOS, ive never heard of a motherboard before that doesn't allow a CAS latency of 3 :S.

i cant run my RAM at rated speed (200 MHz 3-3-3-8) because the motherboard BIOS for some reason doesn't have the CAS 3 setting. why would i want to run my RAM at 166 MHz when it's rated much higher?

thanks for the help guys, i think i will give live update a go. what im planning to do is to uninstall all of my drivers, then plug in the motherboard and run windows repair install, then use liveupdate to get the latest drivers for the new board. i dont know how to uninstall DirectX though.

yeah, it is strange. it just started happening a couple of days after i removed one of my sticks of RAM, and has never happened before. tonight it hasn't crashed at all after over an hour of playing so hopefully it went away.

GTA: San Andreas sound problem. Partially cuts off after little while.

go into control panel, Sound and Audio Devices, Advances button under speaker settings, Peformance tab, lower the Hardware Acceleration. if that doesn't fix it, lower it some more. i have to have mine on Basic Accel for the sounds to work properly in San Andreas.

hard drive brands

i have 2 two year old ATA133 maxtors and 1 one year old SATA maxtor. all are working well and have never had any issues. i doubt you are much more statistically likely to have your maxtor fail than any of the other brands.

if you get a new motherboard, i dont know if your old RAM will still be supported. the new RAM standard for desktops is 184 pin PC-XXXX. if you have a lot of money to spend, then i would recommend getting one of the new dual core processors like Intel Pentium D series or AMD Athlon64 X2 series...
