MMOs? You need more ram.
FPSs? You need the nicer video card.
It's going to be tough to do either with $600. Especially since you need a monitor, optical drive, etc.
I would say use the 6600GT until you can get a 7800GT or GTX. Your card should run most current games decently, not on High, but playable.
Make $100 more and then come back to this, imo.
a 3000+/3200+ Venice should be quiet even after some overclocking.
those things are eager to OC and they stay pretty cool too. the fan shouldn't be spinning too fast. with stock cooling you should get to at least 2.5ghz.

The 3000+ is really easy to OC. Quite a few people have made it to 2700mhz with stock cooling. I made it to 2500 with fine temperatures on a Shuttle SN25P case and mobo.

A BIOS update helped for my 3000+ Venice's temp.
Use the Windows software that they include to BIOS flash, people are having a better time with it opposed to a floppy.
I just updated my BIOS and the CPU is running at about 37C with Smartfan now. I wasn't going to update it because it was stable, but apparently the newer BIOS runs Venice chips better.

Yes, it's a SFF case.
I just ran it with the fans on the high setting and after playing Doom 3 for an hour or so, the CPU was at 45C and the GPU was at 70C.
The computer sounds like a jet engine though. I'm going to try getting it to run alright with Smartfan or on Low so it isn't so...
