Memory Help-Upgrading 1 to 2 GB

I got mine new from Newegg for $40 and can't believe how quiet it is. No sound difference from low to high fan speed. My case is so silent now I can only barely hear my Zalman VF900 when it's going full speed. The typhoon was pretty easy to install too and I'm getting great temps.

That's all I did. Received it yesterday along with my Thermaltake Big Typhoon and that combination is running nice and cool at 25C idle and 31c load. Nice and cool.

Thanks, I'm still a little confused on the $104 one though because in the reviews on the site there's a bunch of people who are using SLI on that board too.

Yes, I game quite a bit but have also been doing a lot of video/mp3 processing lately and would like it to speed up. The board is PCI-E and I'm running a 7900GT KO right now.

Great, thanks. I just ordered the FX-55 deal. Will it be a dramatic difference compared to the 3500? I'll still want to overclock it though when it comes in. Is this just not possible with my locked board?

That's another reason I wanted to unlock the board because I want to get that processor deal. If I just stick that chip in, will the motherboard automatically readjust its settings to allow for the faster clock speed? I thought since it was locked that I wouldn't see any advantage of a faster...

Best bang for the buck Digtal Cam

Check out the Casio Z850. You should be able to get it for under $300 online easily, has a 2.5" lcd, great movie mode using MPEG4, and a ton of great manual options and other bells and whistles (continuous mode with flash). Great camera.

Installed FFDShow-Now Audio Not Working

I've tried playing back some videos and now don't hear audio anymore. Audio works fine still with music, but all my divx files have no sound. I even just uninstalled ffdshow and the same problem exists. I'm sure this is something stupid and minor (I hope) but can you help me out please?

CD Ripping ?

I'm no audiophile, but there is definately a noticeable difference between 128 and 192 MP3, and with the size of portable players nowadays that is a really bad way to skimp on quality IMO for such a big quality difference. Also doesn't iTunes have a pretty poor quality MP3 encoder built in?

Pick me a new hardrive or hardrives

It is great for reliability if you're doing mirroring or RAID-5. RAID-5 is great but requires more drives and there's overhead associated with it. The one he's talking about is probably striping over 2 disks where if you lose one, the data is gone.

Questions about a Media PC

Some great advice in this thread. I have one quick question though which is pretty stupid I guess. What if any reason is there to play DVDs on one of these PCs? I can understand using them for TIVO and DIVX type files, especially if you're ripping your DVDs but why build an expensive machine...

Isn't this a good deal?

I think I also remember reading articles where the 512mb version performed a little bit worse in some games. Stick with the 256 if you can get it cheaper.

Best game for $20

I'm going to reccomend something a bit different in Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel without a Pulse. Different, great, and funny game released a few months back to very good reviews. I can't stop playing it. If not that, Far Cry. Give it a look though.

trying to get new drivers for my laptop, 5200go

I have a 5700Go in my Toshiba laptop and it never lets me upgrade the drivers from Nvidia, even though it should. I think you need to wait until your mfr updates them and if they don't you're hosed. Could be completely wrong though. If it's possible I'd like to figure out how to do it as well.

Also, I just bought a new Gigabyte 3DAurora case that has awesome cooling with 1x120mm in front and 2x120mm in back. It's in a very cool room. I thought my case wasn't getting good airflow so replaced it with this and am having the same heat problems with the 7900GT.
