Windows setup can not find hard drive

Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question, but are you sure you have the SATA drive plugged into the native SATA ports and not the Silicon image ones? That board should not need SATA drivers to install windows, NF4 has native SATA support.

Critique my build

I would add a second vote for Antec sonata case. Looks good, easy to work with, and quiet. You may want to consider the Asrock board in my sig if on a budget. It may not be the best for OCing, but my rig is very quiet, and stable (I don't OC anything).

Disk Cleaners

RegistryFirstAid from www.rosecitysoftware.com will get rid of old dlls. It's not free. It costs about $30. I have used for 2-3 years now. Never had a problem with it.

WD 74GB Raptor S.M.A.R.T. Question

Did you guys try windows error-checking on your hard drives? If SMART only shows 50% fitness (and it was accurate) wouldn't you expect windows error-checking to find errors or bad sectors?

What Serial ATA 150 drives will not need special driver when loading XP pro sp2?

The ULI chipset in the Asrock 939 dual sata board does not need SATA drivers. I installed winXP pro without any SATA drivers. It would only need SATA drivers for RAID, or if you used the non-native Jmicron SATA controller.

can"t uninstall nero 5

To uninstall in safe mode press F8 before windows starts to load. Then choose 'safe mode' from the menu. When I upgraded from a CD burner to a DVD burner I was able to install the new DVD burning version of Nero 6 right over top of the old version. ou might try doing it that way.

It could be the PSU. If the PC is fine without the 2 new HDDs then it either the PSU running out of juice or possibly 1 or both HDDs are faulty. Try running the drive manufacturer's diagnostic utility and or windows check-disk. Try running the PC with just one new HDD at a time, to see if it is...

I am assuming that you are only using one hard drive. If you want to use 2 hard drives in a RAID configuration you will need the SATA drivers. In this case you will have to make the SATA floppy on another computer.

If your data is on the same HDD partition as windows you will loose all your data if you reinstall. You will likely have a more problem free OS if you just do a fresh install. I suppose you could uninstall all your drivers for the old mobo then install the new drivers. Or you could possibly do...

4pin CPU Fan/Heatsink to 3pin m/b connector

ASROCk 939sata CPU temp monitor

I just set up a system with same mobo and CPU. The temps in BIOS look ok to me. CPU is 35-38C. Guess you mean a temp monitor to use in windows? I suppose you (we) could use motherboard monitor: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=311 I never tried it, but I have heard it is pretty good.

problems installing DVD writer, need help

Also, after I installed the new versions of Nero & power DVD the PC seemed a bit slow when launching My Computer, DVD drive, etc. After I used sytem resore (as above) the system is no longer slow but the above problems persist. Any ideas??
