A Real Video Player

I'd build a computer with massive amounts of harddrive space, rip all my DVDs to DivX/Xvid copies making them around 700-900MB for each movie. Then I'd buy a used Xbox and perform a softmod on it and install Xbox Media Center. Run XXGUI (server interface) on the PC, and network the PC to Xbox...

Upgrading my mobo (AKA did I just kill my CPU?)

Just a idea since this was my problem with my last build, you did plug in the extra power hookup for the CPU right?

WOOOT!!!

dc=dualcore, most games at the moment don't support dualcore so you won't see much of a difference either way though this may change in the future. with a 7800gt and 2 gigs you shouldn't have any problems running any games out right now maxed out regardless of what cpu you get.

Usually higher rated cpus will give lower OC's do to yield results, will it probley. But really man instead of paying 300$ for it i'd either wait for a dualcore or just get the cheaper 3000+, but thats just my opinion man. Also man you may want to look into a OEM which would be a new CPU just...

oh 3500+ for 299? yea man i'd really check into the 3000+ since its A LOT cheaper and should reach 3500+ speeds no problem. then when you wan't to upgrade to a dualcore it won't seem as bad as if you payed 300$ for the venice.

I must agree, since your going with a venice 3800+ anyways just get a 3000+ which will most likely OC to 3800+ speeds with decent ram. Ive got a nonname brand (gigaram) and am rock solid at 2.30ghz, I can push to over 2.5 easily if I had some better ram or could figue out why my board won't post...

I just used car stereo sleeving for my wires, you know the semi-hard plastic toobing with a slit all the way down it. then use some black tape to tape up each side

BF2 demands all the ram/video you can throw at it, your just gonna have to find what settings will work for you, stay away from the 64vs64 servers as they will most likely be chop suey on the system

hey man, what divider are you trying? i couldnt get past 230 with 100/133, i'd recieve no post. but my ram seemed to like 166 (or maybe its the board/bios??), try that out, i can push up to 270+ now but because im only divided at 166 my ram won't let me OC to it stabily, but im solid at current...

Can I Use my Laptop for BF2?

I played BF2 @ 1024 on low with a 256MB 9550 ati, so you probly can on low, though i did have 1.5gb in there though. btw it was a desktop with a mobile 1500+ so i'd say it'd be similar to your laptop setup

Xbox can't play ........

well buddy its hit or miss, try different kinds of cdr (AND RW) media of various brands. my xbox has a thompson dvddrive which is the sucks but my buddys xbox plays maxxell cdr's with no problem, just keep trying different media and good luck

laser may be going bad (ive fixed xbox's a bunch of crazy ways i wont get into) but let me ask this real quick, these arent burned cds right? as a lot of xbox dvdroms have problems with CDR/CDRW which would make this normal also a great forum for use xbox users id recommmend is...

How cheap can a media center PC be?

buy a regular xbox and softmod it, www.xbox-scene.org the program you'll be interesting in using is a VERY nice project thats become very polished called XBMC (Xbox media Center), I softmodded my xbox and run a crossover cable to my PC and run ccXgui to stream all my media to the xbox... also...

i'd pretty much say windowsXP will have enough drivers to make the system operational, atleast in my expirence... anything it doesnt have download Everest and see what the hardware is exactly and search google for its driver

Vid Card recommendations

most all oems chips unless stated are new just without heatsink/fan, id go with that 3200 man. The extra multipler it has will help you out when you goto overclock.

i'd look into the X800 GTO2 which has a lowered clock but 16 pipe instead of 12. And ive read they overclock well to so for 200-225$ you have a x850xtpe if it will clock to them speeds.

Today I recieved another power cord from ATi, I have no idea why they sent me this because mine came with one and I did not call them or anything. This new cord however has a sticker stating "For use with RADEON X800 Series graphics cards only which the other they orginally sent with the card...

I got mine for 25$ without a fan at SVC.com, then I payed 10$ for a a panaflo at the same site. So 35$ is about right but i'd what I did instead because the panaflo is a top-notch fan over the standard XP90 one

i'd get the ATi X800 GTO2 (NOT THE GT), its a 16pipe x800 with a lowered clock thats known to clock easily to X850XTPE speeds (200$USD or lower), i got my XP90 at SVC Computing (google) for 24$ and the Panaflo at the same place for 10$, both are good parts. enjoy

dont forget to mention some good free security programs for free antivirus, AntiVir, AVG are sucficiant free firealarm, i'd go with Zonealarm spyware detector, id recommend Ad-aware and Spybot Search & Destroy and finnally don't use Internet Explorer, go download Mozilla Firefox and use it...
