I bought an external hard drive enclosure and it came with a leather case with a flap that closes shut with a magnet. Obviously it's not a powerful magnet but could it affect my hard drive at all?
an app sends a html page with an html form on it for the email recipient to submit but the submit button does nothing. One person that has outlook 2003 sp2 is able to submit the form fine but another person with the same version of outlook cannot. the submit button does nothing. I have not...
This appeared maybe a week ago or less. A lot, but not all, of my desktop icons have this black square. I'm not sure how it happened. It's like it's supposed to be a checkbox or something. Here's a picture of it

any ideas?
anybody out there been using windows onecare? I installed it recently. I like the interface. I can't comment yet on whether it's anti-virus and anti-spyware capabilities yet. I've used norton and mcafee before and hated those. My favorite all in one internet security suite has been Trend...
I just did a fresh install of windows xp home on my desktop. The device manager reports no issues with the ethernet card and with my network cable plugged in the lights on the ethernet card are flashing like they are supposed to. the network cable is connected directly to the modem. when I my...
It works okay. I couldn't say with any degree of accuracy if it's better or worse than ad-aware but I never rely on a single anti-spyware program. You have to manually update and run a scan. Just download and try it. You can always remove it.
I'm curious about the reasons people will have to upgrade to Vista. I know computer manufacturers have been wanting a new OS from MS since XP came out so long ago but I can't see many people buying a new computer just because it has Vista installed. When XP came out I could understand home...
That's not restating what you said. you provided links and said G4 reported but you did not make any statement disputing that. I'm saying that G4's report contradicts what the report says Microsoft says.
since you have a LAN don't you just back up everything? Hard drives are so cheap now there's no reason not to have a 2nd drive (internal or external) to backup your data.
I'm not going to worry about this at this point since I moved the 1 stick of ram over to the other slot but I'm wondering if there would be enough electricy going from ram to heatsink to cause a problem. what do you think?
what would be the purpose of that? It also seems like the warmth of the heatsink would heat the electrical tape causing the substance that makes it sticky to warm and loosen making the tape come off.
the only thing it's touching is the ram. well, currently since I moved the 1 stick of ram to the other slot it doesn't touch so it's fine for now. In the future, if I decide to get another stick of ram the heatsink and ram would touch. I doubt the heatsink is very hot. I don't game on this...
I bought a new quieter heatsink/fan for my computer and it fits but is really snug with the ram. my board has 2 ram slots. currently I am only using one so I moved the ram stick to the slot further from the heatsink. If I have a ram stick in the first slot next to the heatsink the stick is...
I am not sure if UPS does this but I checked tracking for a Fedex package one night and the package arrived at their hub that evening. I did not want to wait the entire next day for the package to arrive so I called Fedex and asked them if they could hold the package at the hub so I could pick...
when did it stop working? have you hooked this laptop up to a projector recently? I know my company used to have a laptop that you had to change some setting via keystrokes so it was no longer trying to send video to the projector.
depends on what you order. I've always had good luck with UPS and Fedex seems to have a difficult time finding my house even though their hub is literally a 5 minute drive from my house and, on more than one occasion, I've had to go pick up my package because they could not find my house.
I ordered a new heatsink and fan for my cpu from newegg and was pleasantly surprised they now offer UPS as a shipping option. I've always found UPS ground to be pretty reliable and quick and it's cheaper than the fedex express saver.
that looks pretty cool but I would hesitate to recommend it if it has only a 3 month warranty like their mp3 players do. maybe the vision is longer but my friend had a creative zen micro and it crapped out on him at about 4 months and he was SOL.
not sure what version of windows you have but the slowdown due to registry clogging is less of an issue in windows xp. windows xp has been really stable for me. I've never had any major issues with spyware and viruses. Using a firewall, anti-virus, and anti-spyware software has been pretty...
I currently have this case The case has a front fan opening that would allow a fan to blow air over the hard drive cage. As you can see in the pictures, the front case cover does not have any holes that would really allow for the fan to pull air in. would it still be beneficial to add a case...
I just bought a new computer case and have everything setup in it. I've been monitoring the temperatures in it for the past couple days using PC Wizard 2005. I have 2 120 gb hard drives installed in it. The temperature on the secondary hard drive which is basically a storage drive is all over...

anybody ever try this sound dampening material. I'm not a gamer and I don't overclock so overheating is not much of an issue. just wondering if anybody has had success with this.
I currently have pclinuxos installed on an emachine that is a few years old It has 2 sticks of the 64mb rdram in it now. It's a little sluggish. I'm considering adding 2 more sticks of 64mb rdram to get it to 256mb. I would try to increase the ram even more but the rdram is somewhat pricey...
to some extent I would agree except I think there is an exception here with my particular brother printer. I've gone to linuxprinting.org and have found possible solutions but the forums there have listed that the brother mfc printers are not exactly linux friendly.
