i setup DHCP on a Windows 2008 Server. Its also running AD and DNS. I set it up and authorized it and it was working fine until the server restarted. after the server restarts for any reason i have to go in and authorize it. Anyone have any suggestions or ideas??
i have 4 branches. i have a default policy for the domain and a custom policy for each branch. i only want to change the proxy settings on a few workstations at each branch. i don't want to have to create any additional group policies unless necessary.
i help with a login script to set proxy settings for users. i don't want to use group policy for this if i don't have to. can anyone please help with this. here is what i have so far.
'Script Start

We use sharepoint 2.0 as our Intranet Site. On the intranet site i have everyones email address listed uder "contacts" and have these contacts linked to Outlook. We don't have an exchange server so this is the easiest way to keep everyones contacts updated. This works fine with no problems...
npoe1: you told us so little about your network that it is impossible to answer a question like that. i am guessing that your network is very small. if this is the case then how secure your network becomes will be limited by cost and office politics. network security is a blend of the right...
on a scale of 1-10
10 being the highest and 1 being the lowest
i would rate this setup a 3.263428736
using 2 nics is not really helping anything. here is a much easier setup
if you must use dsl and cable get two seperate routers. use the same ip subnet on both and give them...
if you are going to get the 360 why not get the wireless kit while your at it. it will be much better than fighting with ICS. Its like getting a car and pushing it around because gas is expensive. if you can afford the car you can definately afford the gas. please just do it right the 1st...
you may want to Ghost the pc once you have reloaded it and have it like you want. that way instead of reloading all you have to do is re image the drive and you are good to go.
i am not saying not to follow all of the security advice. this is just a little extra info
i have an auditor who wants me to define every setting in the Domain Controller Security policy and in the Domain security policy. Is this really necessary? what would be a reason why you wouldn't define every single setting? I have things defined but just not every last one. i always...
if your common SOHO NAT router is so secure then why are we spending all of this money on Firewalls, IPS's, Gateway Antivirus's and things like this.
you know what they say "if its too good to be true it probably is"
try disconeccting any mapped drives and then removing the workstation from the domain. reboot and logon to the local station and join it to the domain. it should work like that. good luck
That thing is so scary. It looks like it could be used as a weapon. maybe they could place it in army workstations. if they run out of bullets they can just take the nic out and use it as a weapon.
i had assumed that you were only as fast as your slowest part. so how does this nic...
webex
go to webex.com that is a really good techsupport tool. all of our software vendors use it to make remote connections into our network. i think it is a little expensive but its seems to be worth every penny.
an education can never hurt you. whether it is necessary or not is another thing. some empolyers think its important and some don't. it really depends on who is doing the hiring. i would say go back and get the degree it may help open up other things for you.
i am not 100% sure but i am going to say that the server is doing the compressing/decompressing. you will not be saving bandwidth only diskspace on your server. if you have SCSI drives it shouldn't be a problem.
This is such a general question. The answer is an infinite amount. With the correct config on switches and routers any one pc could access any other pc physically connected.
Servers help manage data and the flow of that data. do you have to have a "server" at your home in order to...
You can use IPCOP and install the URLfilter. Subscrible to "big black list" at urlblacklist.com This should serve your purpose. and the best part it is free. all you need is an old pc. good luck
weekly backup?
they must not do much work if you are only backing up once a week. if they are doing a lot of work during the week please backup nightly.
Repeat after me Raid 1 is not a backup.
what is taking time is the number of policies that each machine has to process. the templates are not what is slowing you down. for settings that you don't need leave them "unconfigured". only configure the settings that you need.
for example if the only thing you wanted to do with...
mrreizor:
in theory it may be possible to do what you are wanting to do. In theory it is also possible to go two weeks with out eating but why would you want to. that laptop is doing exactly what it should be doing (collecting dust). you must be a glutten for punishment. get a cheap...
My 2 cents.
"if it ain't broke don't fix it" really depends on what isn't broken. for example we have our workstations on a 3 year rotation. after 3 years 90% of them are still working just fine but we replace them because they are not under warranty and usually the software we are using...
DSL or Cable i think depends on your particular ISP and their setup. for example at our main office DSL out performs Cable and at our branch in a different town cable out performs DSL. both towns are Bellsouth & Cox.
they are resolving the correct ip address for the site. they can ping the site. they can run a trace route all the way to the site. they just can't browse the site using a web browser. they said that a month ago they had a similar problem and then it just went away. now the problem is back...
jackmds: i do understand about not discussing bank connections. the homepage is hosted across the country and their is no customer data on this site. the actual internet banking site (that we link to) is hosted by someone else in a different state and it is not a problem.
the question i...
here is the problem. i work for a small bank. our website is hosted by hostcentric. everyone can get to it with no problem except for our customers who use Startelco. startelco is a small isp. they buy service from a company called Z-Corum. startelco is claiming that we are blocking their...
Large companies with a lot more data than what you have use 1 nic per server/workstation and are satisfied. a problem people usually run into is that they don't have a pc that can fully take advantage of a 1 100mb nic much less 2. not to mention the more "dual nic" stations you have the more...
i must agree with Spidey07. If setup properly then 47 users should not need someone onsite all the time. The big key though is to make sure all of your employees are trained to use the equipment and applications that they have to work with. Technology can only do so much. most calls i get...
Go with Mirroring and don't forget to keep a Hot Spare on hand. this is a good redundant solution. if you need it to be more complex than this then i hope you hire a trained professional to advise and set this up.
the default gateway at your satelite offices should be the ip of there router and not the main office router. try this. setup a squid server or other proxy server at your main office. set a group policy so that everyone uses the main office proxy server. since internet traffic will go...
my advice to your sys admin would be to call the firewall vendor and get help with allowing this traffic if it is really needed. it all depends on the firewall as to what you have to do.
take your pick Linksys Dlink or Netgear will give about the same results. the sonicwall & firebrick i think or over kill. go with the consumer router that you think looks the best in closet. you won't see a performance difference by going with a particular brand.
i am pretty sure a consumer router will fit in your closet. they are usually pretty small. if you must spend $400.00 buy a used pc and install IPCOP. it makes an excellent firewall. it will do more than enough.
