Trying to get an AMD Ryzen 5 2600... prices are going up. :(

This is for a Christmas present. They were as low as $109 earlier in the fall... Now the cheapest available is $159. It looks like NewEgg had them for 129 for the weekend, but I missed out... Out of stock before I saw it. What do you all think? Should I grab it for 159 or hope that it comes down...

Well just don't get the powdered latex gloves... That would make a mess that would not look good in the pics. ;)

    Weird problem with new build

Thanks, Grimhammer... At this point I wish I had picked some memory off Gigabyte's compatibility list, but it was kind of limiting (as usual). G-Skill's site said this would be an ok match, but I'm not sure what that's based on, exactly. Of course, it could be something completely different.

    Weird problem with new build

Almost without exception, *every other* time I turn on the computer, it reboots right after Windows starts loading (as soon as the Windows 7 animation starts). Then Windows asks if I want to start normally etc, and then it crashes again when I continue and so on for ever. If I power the computer...

I do NOT trust rebooting or shutting down Win 2003 servers anymore

I've never had that problem with 2003 Server, and I use it every day. That's usually a BIOS option.... What to do when power is restored: on, off, or previous state.

Windows XP64 and lots of RAM.... does windows use it efficiently?

Um... Actually, Photoshop is a 32-bit application and can only address 4 GB of memory, regardless of how much memory you have in your box. However, it can still help to have more, since you'll have memory left for disk cache and other things running on your computer...

Vista OEM reactivation because of hardware change

Ok, I've just a had it a for like a week, and I'm already started to think that the OEM Vista license was a mistake.... Anyway... Last night I had a heatsink problem and reseated the CPU and heatsink (BIOS said I had a new CPU for some reason, even though it was the same one). I also added...

    Hot swapping SATA?

Well, I promised report back... The good news is that my plan "worked"... I can now boot up Vista with ACHI enabled. I was able to install the Intel Matrix whatever software. HOWEVER, hot swapping still doesn't work on the Intel ports. :| For now I have routed a cable from the back of the...

    Hot swapping SATA?

Thanks, and I will, after I get the cable I need. Do yourself a favor when you decide to use your board though.... Make one of those driver disks, enable ACHI before installing, and press F6 or whatever it is during installation. :)

    Hot swapping SATA?

Like I said, I only have eSATA ports connected to the JMicron controller, on the backplane of the motherboard. To connect the rack to it, I would have to run a cable from the back of the computer into the case. It was just some random forum post I read, so that's why I said I don't know if...

    Hot swapping SATA?

Yep, I'd like to avoid running cables from outside ports to the inside of the computer though, if possible. I also heard that the JMicron controller isn't as reliable, but I don't know if that's true. My plan was to use the JMicron controller to be able to install the drivers though: 1. Move...

    Hot swapping SATA?

Ah, I see... Well, I have mine connected to the Intel ports, and I think I just figured out that I need to enable AHCI on those ports to get hot swapping working. I have some JMicron ports too, but only eSATA. Of course, if I enable AHCI on the Intel ports, Windows won't start anymore because it...

    Hot swapping SATA?

Hmm... Interesting... I assumed that Windows would complain like it does with USB mass storage devices, if you unplug without ejecting. So are your SATA drives that you're hot swapping connected directly to your SATA ports? Thanks!

    Hot swapping SATA?

I just built a new system based on Abit IP35 Pro and Q6600. With it I bought a SATA hot swapping rack that mounts in a 5.5" bay, which I was hoping would help with backups. I'm using Vista Ultimate x64 on this system On my previous system, Asus A8N-E with X2 and Windows XP Pro x86, I could...

    Another math problem

This is getting a bit ridiculous.... Cleary specified by the problem is the fact that two boys HAVE ALREADY COME OUT TO GREET YOU. It has HAPPENED. The probability of that happening is 100%. Figuring in that probability is as silly as figuring out the probability of "a random man on the...

Question about networks/connecting multiple computers to the internet

I use DSL rather than cable, but I don't see why the same couldn't be true for cable... My DSL modem has built-in DHCP/NAT, so eventhough it only has one ethernet port, it allows multiple computers by just plugging a hub or switch into it. That's not something my ISP advertises though... In...

    Another math problem

Oh yeah, you think you have to calculate the irrelevant probability that you meet two boys out of three kids (which has already happened). Ok, so let's say that you went to the same house blind-folded and the man said "I have two boys and a third kid". Now all of a sudden the probability of...

    Barcelona Launch Speeds Announced

Unfortunately, memory bandwidth is also a problem in many applications... I.e. even if you don't need to do much HD I/O, you have to be able to supply the four cores with the data that they're crunching.
  25. L

    Another math problem

There is not going to be any backing out, because the fact that we have met two boys is a given. That's not part of the problem. And for your reasoning to make any sense, you would have to list additional conditions, such as the parents pick two out of three kids at random, and each kid as...

    Another math problem

Wrong. Let's look at your admission again: And the problem: The key information here is that you know that he has at least two boys. Whether you came by this information by him telling you, you seeing it (him showing you), him writing a note to you, him emailing you etc etc is irrelevant...

Does coolers produce harmful magnetic fields for computer?

So it's just a fan? I thought you were saying it was something that actually COOLED the air. If it's just a fan it'll work to use it on the exhaust. There's no way it's a 2000W fan though. That would probably make your computer into an airplane. ;)

    Another math problem

This same proof has already been posted by several people, but here it is again, in a form that might be easier for some to understand. All possibilities that the man could've had three children (BTW, this are ordered possibilities, e.g. BBB means "boy then boy then boy"): BBB BBG BGB BGG...

    Another math problem

Besides completely overcomplicating things, your table doesn't make sense. For example: In your second category, how is "bbb" an arrangement of "bbg"? And another one: If the short lines are the possibilities of having three children, and the long lines are the arrangements, how is "gbg"...

Does coolers produce harmful magnetic fields for computer?

10 amp at 220 V is more than the air conditioner I just bought... It's labeled "Cools a livingroom" on the box. You say you will "cool the exhaust"... I'm sorry, that makes no sense at all. You're going to cool the hot air coming out of the case? You do realize that any cooler also makes heat...

    Choosing RAID drives

A while back I tried setting up RAID using WD3200JD drives, but had problems with the drives getting dropped from the array. After doing a little research, it seems that I should've used RE2 drives with TLER. Recently I've meaning to give RAID a try again, and thought I'd give Seagate a shot...

Will wiping the hard drive still solve all virus issues?

The only reason to overwrite things several times is when you want to ensure that data on the drive can never be restored... For example, if you sell a drive that has had secret/sensitive/classified data on it.

Will wiping the hard drive still solve all virus issues?

Formatting the hard drive definitely gets rid of all the viruses. Besides installing antivirus (AVG or avast! for example) and firewall (Kerio for example) (all examples are free software), it can help to make sure that this boy is demoted from administrator to regular user on his computer, for...
