    Who Actually Manufactures Graphics Cards

Yep. All the high tech electronics in the world are made by about 10 companies that you have never heard of. Flextronics is one of them.

Reviews of modern cards and noise levels...

Sapphire has good cooling designs. I have the 7850 and it is very quite. I don't even hear the fan over my 4 case fans until it hits 50% (~2500 rpm). ALso 7000 series stays very cool. Mine doesn't go over 60% with custom fan profile.

The Radeon 7850 is an overclocking beast

Scored 6800, 6750 on graphics. The max voltage is about 1.21v. ASIC score 72% from gpu-z. I will try the lower ram speeds. I don't notice a big difference going from 1250 to 1400 anyways.

The Radeon 7850 is an overclocking beast

Got my Sapphire 7850 OC up to 1200/5600 on stock voltages using Trixx utility. Stable on OCCT, 3dMark, and Heaven. Modified the fan profile to be more aggressive over 50C. Stays under 60C on all these stress tests.

    Which 7870 to buy?

comparing apples to oranges. the 7000 series is absurdly underclocked at stock. no reason except marketing that these cards should be below 1ghz stock.

Upgrading from Intel i5 750 for gaming

4gb is still plenty. You can get win 7 base ram usage down to about750 mb by removing unnecessary services and startup programs. Otoh ram is dirt cheap and 8gb is great for multitasking. Loading cached apps from ram is till orders magnitude faster than ssd

The Radeon 7850 is an overclocking beast

I got mine up to 1200/5600 on stock voltage. However the peak voltage is 1.21v, and when I use the Sapphire overclocking tool the voltage stays fixed (no power saving) when idle. Using Catalyst the voltage drops to 0.85v idle. What tool are you using?

The Radeon 7850 is an overclocking beast

Today returned the Sapphire 7770, picked up the sapphire 7850 2gb overclocking edition. Double the price and hopefully close to a double increase in performance. The Sapphire card is clocked at 920 GHz. How high can this overclock on stock voltage? The 7770 model cut off at 1125/1400.

    Which 7870 to buy?

Forgive my ignore, but what exactly is the benefit of these pricey OC cards? I picked up the Sapphire 7770 1 GB GHZ edition for $120. I can easily overclock it above the specs on these OC cards in the OP. Is it the additional memory, better cooling? The 7770 stays below 50C on 3dmark06 for me.

XFX has quality control issues imo. They seem to think a lifetime warranty is an excuse to release crappy quality cards.

why won't nvidia drop their prices?

If you aren't happy with pricing, don't buy. Products are usually priced at what the market will bear for that particular item. Apparently there is no (yet) reason to massively drop prices. Whether or not that pisses people off, that's just the way a free market works. This isn't a free...

How is Windows Firewall in Windows 7 now?

Windows 7 firewall + hardware firewall is a great combo. The only valuable additional feature in 3rd party firewalls is easier outgoing traffic control. Creating rules in W7F is clunky. Cloning HDD to SSD

Don't know much about AMD chips. The Cavaliar Black is faster but uses more power. Green is the low power/lower speed option. RAM, GPU, etc look fine. A 550W PSU should be sufficient.

New boards for i7 how in the world are you suppose to decide?

    Data backup system

Oh, I didn't realize WHS works with W7. I probably won't use most of it's features but I'm intrigued. What's the file format for the images? How much space is saved? How reliable are the backups? I've heard a lot of complaints about Acronis' reliability. Does WHS work together with the...

    Data backup system

Right. What I mean is some drives have only an ethernet output. The data is transfered through the router. That's what I meant by an NAS. The eSata only drive connects directly to the PC. Perhaps higher end models have both outputs though.

    How's this future-proof PC?

i5 even slightly OCd (OC with turbo) gives best performance/$. Games won't use the hyperthreading of the i7 800 and 900 chips. Even stock with turbo should run games well if not running too many other threads.
