Ok... well, I uninstalled the device through Device Mangler, something I'd already done 5 or 6 times, restarted, and Windows recognized and reinstalled the device, as it had already done several times. Now it works. There's no reason for it to work, and for the sake of my own sanity, I'd...
I uninstalled the device, and reinstalled it using both device manager and the driver installation package. It shows its location correctly.
I just reinstalled Windows XP from scratch--same problem!
This is probably the weirdest problem I've ever encountered with hardware. I have a Compaq Presario R3000 laptop (AMD64 3000+ Mobile), which uses SoundMAX Sensura Integrated Digital Audio. After reinstalling XP, I found on the Compaq website that there was a BIOS update available, so I...
Linux won't ever get full migration of the computer-using community until developers do the following: make the directory hierarchy more intuitive, as simple as making concise descriptive titles that get displayed along with the directory name; deploy a windows-like installation system...
Oh my god. This isn't rocket science here. If you have game problems, just set the processor affinity to a single core. Problem solved, games run fine, and you still are prepared for multi-threaded applications. If it still doesn't work, just install the correct driver. How can you judge a...
Well, I've already put my system together with the Fatal1ty (awesome) and the Audigy 2 ZS (same as Audigy 4 - an extra audio core, who cares?). Did I waste my money? How much better is the Audigy's audio quality and performance than the onboard AC97 AudioMAX?
i understand that it has great dependency resoultion, but i also understand that yum fixed a lot of those issues with RPMs.
i guess what i want to know is which is easier, as well as which is more customizable.
does ubuntu or fedora have support for ndiswrapper out of the box? i want to...
The whole core redesigns and clock speeds and what not are reaching their practical limits. All they can really do now is sharpen their hardware algorithms and add more cores. What's really going to make a difference is the advent of new technologies, most of which are being developed by IBM...
how is MS not proprietary? i mean I'm windows all the way (if you're not a complete idiot, it usually just works. even if it doesn't, most of the time it's an easy fix vs linux) but it's very, very proprietary. NONE of its source is open.
what's the advantage of debian based packages over RPMs?
well, let me rephrase that.
as a windows user and a firm believer that windows-like installation systems are better than packages (no thought required!!), which one would suit my not-wanting-to-mess-with-installation needs better?
um.... some reasons as to WHY you use what you use would be a little more helpful ;) heh.
I'm a linux newbie and am wanting a distro that will run quickly and supports Ndiswrapper out of the box without hacking or recompiling or anything. I'm hoping to learn to become a power Linux user...
I recently read that it was possible to run Windows XP with no major, if any, speed impacts at the same time as Linux via Xen virtualization. How would I go about doing this, and is it possible in Fedora Core, Ubuntu, or Suse?
Panda BusinessSecure is the greatest thing since sliced bread if you're running all fairly new XP machines. It is fully administerable from a central console, updates daily, and practically obliterates both spyware and viruses, even spam and fraudulent emails. It's GUI is buggy as hell, though.
Linspire is linux minus the whole security thing. If you want to go with Linspire, just go with Windows. It's good for stepping into linux for the first time though. Ubuntu is OK--it's probably the easiest Debian-based distro. If I were you though, I'd go with Fedora Core 4. fedora.redhat.com
Hum... yea I hadn't thought of that. Yea, auto-overclocking is broken. That still doesn't explain why i got negative results while following Anand's instructions.
I recently read Anand's article on overclocking the 4200+ X2, and tried the same thing myself. However, when I ran the CS:S video stress, I got lower framerates, and loading time was noticeably slower. The speed here was at 2.4GHz rather than the stock 2.2GHz, with no voltage modifications or...
my ramen is too far away... i can't get up... not for a minute... must play WoW... somebody please fix me my ramen... i'm starving... too far... WoW...
why would you move a G5 powermac from its regular case? not only is the default great looking, it's also... well it's a G5 case. it's built for the G5 powermac. if something's broken just contact apple for a new case. oh, and be advised that power supplies may be a problem, and good luck...
