How does this look for the price? I don't have a budget per se, but I don't want overkill and would rather upgrade later if I need to, especially the GPU. Given the price for the 5800x and motherboards it seemed the right direction to go.

Been a loooong time since I touched this thing. If I upgraded I'm considering something like a Ryzen 5800X, 3060 TI or 3070, new motherboard, and doubling the RAM.
Given prices and the age of the machine is that even worth it, or is a prebuilt machine a better deal? I could build my own again...
The main reason was because they were non-native species in those mountains (Olympics)... but if youve ever hiked in the mountains before you know they're addicted to salt. It's a bit uncomfortable when they come up to when you're taking a leak. Sometimes it seems like they want to drink it...
Same - next time I need a phone again I'll switch to something else for a few months so I can be a new customer for the 3rd time.
Luckily I live near T-Mobile US HQ so Fi reception is pretty good.
Similar story here, with the phone at least... I've had Google phones from day one but recent software "updates" and pixel 6 horror stories made me spring for a galaxy s22 ($299 when switching to Fi) that I'll use temporarily until I figure out where to go next. The deal only requires 4 months...
Nice - that last one looks like 1/3 overlap. I'll lay one out.
I'm doing everything myself and perfectly lining up the niche with a row if tiles would be way too much if a pain for me.
Yeah I sistered up the studs and sanded them down to get them flat. The smaller back wall has a bit of a bow in it but I'm going to float it with mortar to get it perfect. I'm going to be super anal about alignment and use leveling wedges. I'll probably use 1/2x1/2 square notch trowel and back...
Leaning towards 12x24 tile in my shower. The pic below shows all 3 walls. The circles are the showerheads (one on each side). The mosaic in the middle is a niche - I'm positioning it that way so I don't have any U-shaped tile cutouts.
I decided to make the center of the tiles on the wall line...
I've been through that a few times for the heck of it... It's kind of like Plinko, you just bounce around and come out somewhere, hopefully close to your intended direction.
I know someone who has been with Zillow from the beginning (employee #~10). Like most tech companies (Facebook, Google), they're just advertising agencies in disguise. All of their money was coming from agents and lenders advertising on their site. The Zestimate was just to draw in users to the...
I never understand what the gas mileage units are in my rental cars there... miles per liter I think?
Interestingly beer sold by the pint is 20 oz rather than the 16 oz in the US, presumably because their flat room temperature swill has such a low ABV they need to drink more of it.
Switching...
Comeon...the story is too sensational for a reasonable person to think it's true.
This story was in fact made up:

Took my M&P sport AR-15 out for the first time... finally. It was my first time shooting rifles asides from plinking with a 22 (I usually shoot handguns and shotguns).
Only did 50 yards and couldn't do better than a 2" grouping using both iron sights and a red dot. I was surprised how hard it...
According to their website
"Final ticket prices will be set by airlines, but we’re designing Overture so that airlines will be able to offer fares similar to today's long-haul, business-class travel. Our ultimate vision is to reduce operating costs to make supersonic flight even more widely...
I didn't think my hearing was that bad. People told me I always had the TV loud and a very small handful of coworkers I had trouble understanding. Then I got hearing aids... I couldn't believe I never noticed that I couldn't hear birds anymore!
At first they were brutal. Even though they start...
I've been weaning myself from Amazon. My latest project is switching to Mycroft, an open source voice assistant with way more privacy. Sometimes its a buggy mess, but it's better than Amazon listening to everything. Programming your own response to voice commands is easy if you know basic...
That test was a joke right? I play classical piano and have significant hearing loss with some pretty extreme accute tinnitus, so I've taken lots of different hearing tests. That was ridiculously easy.
I'm replacing my bathtub with a large shower and want to put in a regular showerhead plus a rail-mounted handheld against the same wall. The catch is that I want to be able to run both without a huge flow rate loss.
Systems like this definitely accomplish that, though they require a separate...
Nautical miles are one of the only units that don't have an arbitrary basis - it's the arc length of 1/60th of a degree on the earth's surface.
I guess this is funny if you're not good at STEM.
You should do the math on a 15 year mortgage vs. a 30 year making the same payments as a 15 year. With such low rates, the difference is really small, and a 30 year gives you the flexibility of lower required payments should your financial situation change.
I could argue with every point written in this thread, but what's the point? People will believe what they want to. I do this kind of stuff for a living with other professionals and get paid. Arguing with the internet isn't a great use of my time.
The bottom line is the expectation of the...
As an aerospace engineer, it's entertaining reading the ramblings of armchair aerodynamicists in this thread. I'm guessing not a single person here read the joint report, let alone has aerodynamic engineering experience with a Part 25 aircraft manufacturer
I've spent years of my life in wind...
What do you mean by flash?
My plan was OSB -> primer -> leveler -> tar paper or poly sheeting (not sure how to attach to leveler) -> mortar. If I use self-leveler the primer will be specifically designed for that brand of leveler.
My subfloor situation is a bit odd. The floor under the tub...
I'm going to install a new acrylic shower pan, in an alcove, which specifies being set in mortar for stability. This particular model sits on a bunch of built-in rings
On the long end of the OSB subfloor it's about 0.25-0.50 inches low. The other half of the floor is very level.

I work for a big aerospace company as an engineer and have decent vacation with separate sick leave. Our vacation is our vacation... You take it when you want and as long as there's a bit of notice you can take it all at once if you want. Heck, a lot of people even take unpaid leave for extended...
In engineering you can skip the masters entirely and go straight to PhD... But don't even think about that.
At least half of engineering students drop out. It's not easy.
Nope, been there 12 times for a month at a time over a period of 10 years. I had a corporate card with a $75/meal limit (with several tricks to circumvent that), and spent plenty of time and effort finding the best restaurants we could.
Of course you can find good food there, but you can find...
I've taken a dozen month-long work trips there with a limitless corporate card so I've eaten a lot of food.
Tuna + sweetcorn - I've seen that everywhere. From baked potatoes to Cornish pasties to Subway to pizza... even Papa John's.
And don't get me started on English ale. Lukewarm, stale, and...
I spend about a month a year in England for work and still forget about that difference. Last trip I spent 20 minutes looking for my car in a parking garage.
