Went ahead with the HD 6870 and a PC P&C Mk III 600w. I'm going to work on OCing my C2D once they get here. I'm hoping for a pretty significant gain in Skyrim eye candy + FPS, or i'll probably just return the card and hold off for a few months. Thanks for the help!

WoW @ 2560 x 1600

Yep, I have a good cooler on it. (AC 7 Freezer) I used to have it overclocked but I leave it at default now as i really don't play anything that i can't run. Do you think i'd be ok with just overclocking the CPU and upgrading graphics? Or do I need a new mobo and perhaps SLI.

Software raid 1?

I am coming to the realization that if my media HDD went i'd lose a lot of shit that i'd rather not. Can I buy 2 identical HDDs and put them in RAID 1 without a hardware controller? Any advice would be appreciated.

Yeah, i'd rather not get a 16x10 monitor as i'll still be using it as my main PC monitor and on top of some unsupported PC game resolutions i think i'd run into it would probably be a little short for normal word processing and browsing.

I unplugged SATA from the drive and left only power connected and it's still opening and closing. I guess it can only be hardware.

A few weeks ago my cd drive started randomly opening and closing. I unplugged it until i was not lazy enough to reformat. So, i reformatted (from xp32 to vista64) and it's still happening. Do you guys think it's faulty hardware or something more insidious?

Parkinson's Disease Treatment

My grandmother had parkinson's for a long time, she just passed away a month or so ago. It seemed like a lot of her pain was caused by her stubbornness and poor outlook on life, but after so many years on parkinson's drugs, can you really control those feelings correctly anymore? I don't know.

The best choice for a 50" 1080p Plasma?

I think i'm almost decided on the PZ85U. I DO want to play XBOX on it for 4 hours at a time, but i am willing to be careful with it in order to gain the plasma edge in terms of color and picture. Cuban, how badly does it burn in after watching the news ticker or gaming for a few hours?

Anti-Static Straps & Static Electricity

switch the psu off, then try to power it up. It will fail. After that, just sit down and touch the case before removing parts. As far as I know anti-static straps are a joke in normal situations.

Just a thought on PC gaming

tbh the only games i've ever been completely addicted to were tournament competitive FPSs and then MMORPGs. I don't want to do either on a console. If it gets to the point where consoles are just locked PCs with keyboards and mice, what's the fucking point?

"Digital noise" thru speakers

I also used an abit IP35 Pro, and not only did it cause the annoying static in the onboard sound, it caused my psu to make whining noises during certain tasks. i switched it with a gigabyte board.
