  1. OOTL - What happened to Cheez?

Man going through that thread is a trip. I want to feel like he’s in for the long troll but the reality is that his story is more depressing than funny. At this point you can only hope that it’s a troll story because the alternative is that he really, really needs help.
  2. OOTL - What happened to Cheez?

Apologies upfront if this is not allowed... What happened to Cheez? I haven't been on this forum in about 6 years or so but a topic on a website got me thinking about Cheez and his $10k audio cables and all those old discussions with audiotruth. I come back and he's living in a shed in the...
  3. Worth to upgrade at this point?

I've been inactive for the last two years due to changes in my job and I've finally got back into gaming/PCs, and wow, doesn't seem like too much has changed since I bought my 7950 back in 2/2013! I just bought a QNIX QX2710 1440p monitor, been playing BF4. The monitor OCs to 90 Hz now, it...
  4. Rear wheel doesn't spin freely

Summary: Rotor/hub/caliper assembly spins fine, but when you put on the wheel and lug it down, it won't spin at all. Replaced rear brakes for a 2004 camry. Just decided to change out pads/rotors. Rotors were stuck on, had to use the little bolt holes to thread in bolts and push out the...
  5. I have Skynet by the balls now!

    We are the resistance...
  6. Anyone know the best place to buy some Beats Studio (new version) in white?

Meh, who cares what a kid wants to wear? The beats aren't audiophile class but for the music that a teenager is going to listen to anyway, it works pretty well. If you ever actually get a chance to listen to them, they aren't bad headphones. Just not worth the price, like every other...
  7. Don't put film / tint on your front windshield.

If the Crystalline has far better heat rejection, why didn't they direct you to that one since that was your primary concern? You should raise hell.
  8. Don't put film / tint on your front windshield.

What's with all the tint debates? This is not really a tint but a relatively clear film for reducing heat. It's more like a screen protector than a tint. I would go back to the installer immediately and have them either reapply it or remove it and refund if you can't remove the grain...
  9. Why don't we all drive diesel cars? Or at most diesel/electric hybrids?

All politics aside, I don't think solar energy can have that much of an effect. I think the average number thrown around is 1000W for every square meter for direct sunlight (just pure energy). Even with no conversion losses, assume your car has about 8 square meters of surface area. At 8kW...
  10. My wife and I are buying a car for my mom this weekend....

Check out the Maxima or G35 sedans. Generally low resale value but with nice amenities.
  11. broken valve cover bolt

Can you get at it from the other side? On my Miata it goes through the valve cover and through the flange on the other side. Also, buy a 1/4" torque wrench from harbor frieght for $10. It'll save your ass when putting it back on.
  12. Money laundering problem

Those are euros. They're plastic notes. Plastic doesn't like heat.
  13. "Removal of nuclear fuel begins at Fukushima" and by 2053 all units decommissioned!!

I think the amount of tabloid-esque pictures in this thread is about to hit critical mass.
  14. 2015 WRX Teased

No hatch version at least for MY2015. Fuel economy increases slightly with 6MT.
  15. Do not drive through New Mexico :O

Because it's not disobeying orders, it's assault. If they're daring enough to attack a cop for a traffic stop, they may be daring enough to kill him and/or anyone else. The moment you threaten someone is the moment you step across the line and it is now in their right to escalate. Same reason...
  16. 2015 WRX Teased

Not sure if I'm impressed or not. Hopefully the new STI will be more definitive.
  17. Living Situation in my Crosstrek

I'd always imagined getting a minivan if I were to live in a car. Much more room in the back, and a lot of them are coming out with AWD capabilities now. As for noise, I'd imagine it wouldn't be too bad soundproofing the interior with dynamat. Solve the heat problem by staying away from hot...
  18. Do not drive through New Mexico :O

Cops aren't there to give you a fair fight. There's no reason to assault a cop in a traffic stop and at minimum that deserves a taze. Disabling a vehicle with a gun isn't unreasonable and if they had turned around to drive towards the cop I would expect gunshots through the windshield.
  19. Do not drive through New Mexico :O

I think it's funny that people are defending the occupants of the van. When you assault a cop, what happens to you is on you. What kind of person defends fleeing from a speeding ticket and assaulting an officer for pulling someone over?
  20. People driving with headlights off

In cities it's pretty common because it's too easy to forget that you don't have lights on (there's so much light around it almost doesn't matter). I don't understand how you can do it in the suburbs or country though. It's pitch black outside. Also, they should have lights come on...
  21. The pieces for my RTW trip are finally starting to fall into place.

I'm assuming he's an on-the-move photographer and also resells equipment. Since he's most likely Asian, he can probably get connections for manufacturers in Asia and can resell here for a profit. My guess anyway.
  22. Living Situation in my Crosstrek

How do you deal with extreme temperature situations? Like really warm nights or really cold nights? Do you just run the car all night?
  23. Time and Memory

That's the subject of research and we haven't quite gotten there. I think I remember some theory about how the universe is actually discrete. Read Flatland, if you haven't already. If you were an order higher than our current state of living, I think you would see the entire universe as one...
  24. Parking lot Story. Would you be pissed?

Who reports someone for working on their car??
  25. Time and Memory

Of course, because a person without memory doesn't grasp concepts. Time is a construct of memory. We can assume that time doesn't exist and we actually don't have any real memory, and that only the current moment exist. That each moment in life is like a photograph. But for us to have any...
  26. Time and Memory

Why not? Just because you don't remember it doesn't mean it didn't happen. A decent example would be to watch a bunch of marbles on the floor. The marbles have absolutely no idea of where they are (or even self-realization), but if you roll them they have different positions at different...
  27. Are you going to put up holiday lights?

So we should kill any source of joy because we don't like where it came from? Regardless of what started it, it's a positive, valuable family tradition. Unless you take it to the extreme (getting overinvolved in the consumerism part of it), there's nothing negative about celebrating...
  28. Obama recites the gettysburg address, leaves out "under God"

Arguing with Chiropteran is like arguing with a brick wall. He doesn't see any opinions other than his own, nor can he digest another person's views. Obama more than likely just read whatever was handed to him. And someone down the line with an agenda probably picked the version without God...
  29. Are you going to put up holiday lights?

All the major holidays are consumer holidays now. Don't give your kids gifts for Christmas, and they will miserable.
  30. Are you going to put up holiday lights?

The PC crowd and the anti-religious crowd feels the need to win battles wherever they can, especially if it means destroying traditions in order to rename it something 'PC'. It kind of kills the point. We celebrate these holidays out of tradition. Taking the tradition out of it takes the...
  31. Parking lot Story. Would you be pissed?

Sounds like they just moved their car to avoid being towed. And your spot seems like a nice place to hide a car. Then again, maybe they are targeting you. Who knows.
  32. Time and Memory

I think you should just go back and take a few courses on calculus and relativity. MIT should have these for free online. Even if it doesn't directly answer your questions, working the numbers should give you a better feel for things. The point SMOGZINN is trying to say is that time is...
  33. "Removal of nuclear fuel begins at Fukushima" and by 2053 all units decommissioned!!

It comes down to the stigma of nuclear energy being confused with nuclear weaponry, the general ignorance on nuclear technology and NIMBY. Compound the history of nuclear power versus other forms and it's far safer than most energy sources today. A handful of direct deaths versus the...
  34. "Removal of nuclear fuel begins at Fukushima" and by 2053 all units decommissioned!!

Nuclear reactors don't explode. They don't have enough mass to reach explosive criticality.
  35. "Removal of nuclear fuel begins at Fukushima" and by 2053 all units decommissioned!!

Get your logic out of here. Don't you see the dangers of green goo and dolphin-Godzilla? Also I thought the only reason why current generation (read. 1970s) reactors produce so much waste (relatively) is because they are designed to produce weapon-grade plutonium in case of a Cold War heatup.
  36. What kind of job do you have? Can we try to get a semi-serious survey?

Electrical/Controls Engineer. I mastered in controls engineering but it seems the majority of my job is in electronics. Although I do get to write the odd control algorithm here or there.
  37. How do I go about buying a Rabbit for my Mom and a Hamster for my Cat?

I'm pretty sure he just let slip that he is patrick..
  38. Blacklist and Agents of Shield start 9/23 and 9/24

Red is probably the only redeeming element in this show. Everything else seems like a Fringe knockoff but without a capable cast to push it through. Keane has the personality of a brick. They managed to pull out some great guest actors (Dr. Wilson!) but they got rid of them just as quickly...
  39. McRib... people actually eat these things?

Again? Don't we have a McRib thread every year?
  40. 2015 WRX Teased

The new STI is on my watch list. It can be as ugly as it wants as long as it gets more power and less weight from the current one. And some extra features would be nice.
