weird behavior with cpu voltage - X2 3800+ *update*

Bigsm00th - Hold on... I DO see similar behavior. My latest run of Prime95 had a fail on core1 after 19 hours. Vcore is set to 1.52 (bios reading) and under a load, was showing 1.50-1.52 on the Epox status app. After core1 stopped, Vcore was showing 1.55-1.56. I will have to look at this...

weird behavior with cpu voltage - X2 3800+ *update*

Just another positive comment for the Epox 9NPA Ultra. I have one with a PC Power & Cooling Turbo Cool 425W running an Operton 170 at 2.46 GHz. No drop at full load, two instances of Prime 95.

That seems like a lot of drop. What power supply are you using?

    AXP 3200 vs A64 3200

Not that I am a big fan of this other site, but the CPU charts show a pretty big improvement in performance going from an Athlon xp 3200 to an Athlon 64 3200. It might be worth checking the charts out.

Problem Overclocking Opteron 165. Please Help.

Maybe I don't understand what you mean, but I would never consider a computer "stable" that had any errors from memtest. In real world situations, an occasional memory error might cause a blue screen or lock up, but worse, it might not show up as anything except that some of your data is...

    Which nForce4 Motherboard?

This article states, "...the nForce Pro 2200 is essentially an nForce4 Ultra for Opteron. " Different chipset, but common design to the nForce4.

raptor vs raid 0 hitachi sata II

I just skimmed quickly the review you linked, so no flaming arrows, but it looked like the comparison was between a single Raptor drive and two Hitachi SATA II drives in a RAID 0 configuration. The Hitachi's won out in sequential reads and in file copies. I think a single Raptor is still...

    Multitasking

Found this: "In compilation, AMD still takes the cake, but the Celeron 335 manages to best the 2500+ Barton in this benchmark. We can see the more than 7% performance improvement when looking at the 20x100 Celeron D, and the 2.53GHz Celeron D 325 performs head and shoulders above the 2.6GHz...

Best AMD System to go for at the moment...

You'll pay about $100 premium to get a socket 939 system over a 754. For $100 you get maybe 5% performance improvement with dual channel, depending on what you're doing. You also get the chance to overclock one of the new 90nm A64's and might get to 2.5+ GHz or better. You are probably on a...

    A64 vs P4-HT !

You got that right! I was just trying to help out banibratadutta. :) I just put my A64 system together a few weeks ago, and I love it. I currently have a 90nm 3200+ in it, clock at 2.5 GHz, with a 6800 GT card. It is sweet. Definitely better for playing Doom 3 and Far Cry than the P4 system...

    A64 vs P4-HT !

I guess it depends on how you look at it, but "nothing at all like dual cores" is a stretch. Here is a link to an Intel white paper that have a pretty good explanation. "The Intel Xeon processor family implementation of Hyper-Threading technology enables each physical processor to appear as...

    A64 vs P4-HT !

Just to clarify, I meant that there is a big difference between running concurrent applications on a P4 with hyperthreading turned on and with a P4 and hyperthreading turned off. I DO wish that the A64 had hyperthreading. The A64 would then multitask (with concurrent apps) better than it...

    A64 vs P4-HT !

It's a tough call, but if most the time you are doing real work, I might lean towards the P4. You mentioned that part of your use was "1) MS-Word 2000, MS-Visio 2003, Rational Rose EE 2000 (at times all the 3 together)". I currently have both a 3.0 GHz P4 system and an A64 system. Hyperthreading...

    ** Official EPoX 9NDA3+ Thread ** S939

My 9NDA3+ has been great so far. My only complaint is that the USDM app doesn't seem to update the CPU temp correctly. You may have already seen this, but there is an updated bios at the Epox website. I haven't tried it, yet, but probably will this weekend.

    AMD 64 versus P4 32 bit processor

The details of processor design are fairly complicated, but there are tradeoffs between how fast I can run a clock versus how much I can do for each clock cycle. The AMD processors do more for each clock cycle, but the clock cannot be run as fast. Intel chose a design that lets the clock run...

    AMD 64 versus P4 32 bit processor

bim27142 - It looks like your real question is something like, "Is the Athlon 64 better than the Intel Pentium 4?". As already been pointed out, its not really 64-bit verses 32-bit, although there a 64-bit Linux distro's now. There is an old Anandtech article that describes the Athlon 64...

    A64 3500, MSI NEO2 & ZALMAN CNPS7000A-AlCu .. How Much you think this will Overclock ? :)

It wouldn't hurt to try it. You will have more flexibility tweaking the settings by hand, but you could try the general feature just to see how the system performs. If it doesn't work, then you can try tuning things up manually.

    Just bought a 3000+ 939 ... o/c details inside

Sorry, I haven't read through the whole thread, but if everthing is completely stable, you should be able to run Prime95 forever. I have a 3000+ 90nm that will usually get an error in Prime95 after anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours, but ran for over 24 hors once. I still wouldn't call it...

    AMD 90 nm cpu questions

The 3000+ and the 3500+ are made using the same process, the same wafers and masks, etc. Theoretically, the only difference is due to process variations. For a well controlled process with little variation, they are all about the same. Again, in theory, te manufacture sorts the chips, and the...

    Problems with a EPOX EP-9NDA3+

Glad I could help. :) I hope things go well with the 9NDA3+. I have only had mine since Monday, but things have gone really smooth so far. I had been itching for a 939 board for quite awhile, and when the lower end 90nm chips came out, I grabbed one and the 9NDA3+. The Epox 8KHA+ was one of...

    Problems with a EPOX EP-9NDA3+

The LCD displays FF after booting up. That's normal. I had an Epox 8KHA+ that had the same LCD feature and would display FF after booting up. The manual says that a FFh code means "Int 19h attempted". Int 19h is the BIOS command to atttempt a boot from the hard drive. That's the last command...

    Problems with a EPOX EP-9NDA3+

FFh just means FF "hexadecimal". I have a 9NDA3+. No problems here, but I haven't changed the boot sequence. There may be a bios setting to load the defaults. My system is running a stability test at the moment, but I can check tomorrow. If you have the 3400+, do you have the HTT set...

    ** Official EPoX 9NDA3+ Thread ** S939

I just got a 9NDA3+ from Newegg this week. I haven't had time to do a lot with it, but I have started overclocking a 3000 to see what it will do (at least up to a point). I started by overclocking with the memory 1:1 and was stable (hours running Prime95) at 230 FSB. I jumped to 245 FSB (CPU at...

parkbench - I'm sure that there are a lot of people in the same boat you're in. I have an AGP 6800GT and ended up getting an nForce 3 Ultra board so that I could keep using the video card for awhile. I should be good with that setup for awhile. A64 3400+ 939 at Newegg

Yeah - I saw that article. I was hoping that someone had actually bought one and could share some details! I don't see how the 2.4 GHz clock rate that Newegg has listed could be right. The 3400+ must be correct, because that's right off the chip designation. The 3500+ is 2.2 GHz, the new...

    Athlon64 3200+ Winchester & K8N Neo2 Overclock

Hmmm.... I've never had a system that I could not run Prime95 on with no errors. I think having Priime95 failures are a pretty good sign that something is not right, even if it doesn't show up running apps and other benchmarks.

xoduzz786 - I wouldn't worry about it too much. I found another cpuid v1.22 screen shot of a 939 pin FX-53 that lists the core as Sledgehammer. If 1.22 lists yours as a Sledgehammer, but 1.24 shows Clawhammer, you have the real thing (and as was mentioned, you could see if increasing the...
