Needs for protection on a linux system?

I'm his Mom. <sigh> . And I did suggest that he was having a conversation with himself, LOL. I know next to nothing, or only a little back from the early unix days, about linux. Just seems to me if he's running a server on the connected network I have cause to worry. What do you think?

Thanks, I ordered one to try. Netgear and dlink have the same chipset for 108, so I'm hopeful that there won't be a conflict.

How can I prevent my wirless card from seeing my next door neighbor's router?

Actually, I was just thinking about that last night. We have 4 networks nearby, and I picked up on one with a desktop while I was expermenting with some settings. I ran a speed test while connected to the neighbor's network, and getting the report back it reported me as a "wide open west"...

108 G PCI card out there?

Have a netgear 624 router, and I want a 108 G pCI card to use its 108 ability. Their 311 card operates at 108 A only (54 is top performance for G). Anyone know of another manufacturer? Thanks for the help!

Windows XP Home Ed. Backup Help Needed

I added the backup utility from the win xp home edition cd. Little note with it says: will not detect cd-r drive, so you can't back up to cd-r directly. Save files to another drive, keep them under 650 megs, and then burn them to cd. What a pain! Does anyone know a way around this?:disgust:

solved: Suddenly unable to browse network

Can someone figure out why the clients on my network are suddenly unable to see each other? I had 2 NICS in the host PC, ( 1 NIC cable modem, one NIC switch) and all was fine. I changed the configuration by adding a router, so I now have modem:router:switch:clients. There is now only one...

Help needed with BIOS update

I'm getting strange errors with DDEML.DLL installing an ultra 133 PCI card. Maxtor thinks the BIOS needs updating. This was a clone pc from an out of business company. I know the MB was made by pcchips, but I can't relate the model numbers on their site to the info I have about the board...

Help with this CD-R Problem, Please

Trying to Format a new drive, and getting incorrect DOS version?

I've done a few of these, and the exact situation drove me crazy on the last machine. Turned out it was a bad memory stickhanging the install. Test your memory and see what happens.

Printing Multiple Photos on One Sheet?

New to digital cameras, and trying out the new deskjet 930. How can I get multiple 4 x 6 photos to print on one 8 x 11 sheet? I've got the Fuji MX 1200, and I'm using their supplied EZ Touch software. Thanks for any help!
