    Wireless bridge connection question

So all the hardware I have is Linksys & all the wireless hardware is the G standard. The issue I have is, if I can get the AP talking to the router, at the other end, will the AP still be able to act as an AP for employees in the existing office network in bridge mode? What confuses me...

    Wireless bridge connection question

I have a business class road-runner connection in one of my office buildings. My boss just purchased a building about a 150' away. I have line of sight to the window where his office is from the wiring closet where our wireless AP is. We're are using off the shelf linksys routers & AP's...

Hardware Questions/suggestions for small business newtork

Would a managed switch allow me to limit the amout of bandwidth per port? I was thinking of splitting the internet connection via a switch and then connect two linksys routers to it (one as a fail over) and then connect them to a 24 port switch. That in theory should work even if one of the...

Hardware Questions/suggestions for small business newtork

I have an apartment complex with 8 apartments each wired with 3 or 4 ethernet ports. The wires go down to a wireing closet in the basement where I plan to install a patch panel. I have ordered business class Road Runner with a 2MB downstream connection and a 384K upstream connection. I was...

ANY WAY to host own domain name??

I use www.zoneedit.com for dns services. They have very good help docs on how to set up and host your own domain. Buy a cheap domain from have the DNS servers set to what zoneedit assigns you and put in your IP address. I suppose you could set up your own DNS servers if you have a static IP...

Linksys wireless router question - static ip related

I have a Linksys 54G router with 3 machines wired to the router itself and 7 laptions that connect via wireless cards (not all at the same time). I want to leave DHCP enabled for the laptops, but I need one of these machines to have a fixed IP so that I can forward all http and ftp requests...

    User-modifiable DNS?

Without a doubt Zoneedit.com is the way to go. Not only are they free, they offer almost every option there is. Just for mail for instance, you can modify the MX record or do a mailforard to your existing email address. They let you modify subdomains. The best thing about this site is that...

    Cendyne DVD burner, $200

There are many DVD writing standards so be careful which one you pick. I have a HP200i which is a DVD+R/w drive. The Cendyne is a DVD-R drive. There is a difference. Do your research before you buy.

    PTC Pro/Engineer $14.95 for real!!

Pro/E Sucks! I use 200i2 and it is an awful piece of software. For those of you who ordered the CD, I hope you have a powerful enough PC. I have a Dell 620/Dual Xeon's at work - and it crawls when I open relatively small assemblies. Forget about using it with Windchill.

    Swapping HD in XP

I'm having a real hard time with this. I have a 6 Gig drive on my XP machine. I am replacing with a 60 Gig drive. Traditionally with 9x OS's I used XCOPY32 to transger all my data. Any suggestions? What is the best way of upgrading your primary drive if you're using Windows XP?
  12. M

    Hard Drive upgrade

Use XCOPY32. At the run command type XCOPY32 C:\ D:\ /c /e /f /h /r /s This configuration assumes that your old drive is drive C and the new drive is drive D. Obviously you should have formatted the new drive before doing this. Also, you will want to temporarily disable the swap file. Once all...

I need 1.13 TerraBytes of disk space

Can't really answer why - but I think Maxattach may have a reasonable Snap NAS solution for my needs. The salesman is going to call me back, but he's quoting me $2,699 for the drives + $800 for other hardware. If this is the best I can do, then i'm going for it. Anyone with any last minute...
