OK, I bit the bullet and ordered a Athlon 64 4600+ x2 instead.. best of both worlds. I can't justify buying 1 or even 2 7800GTX cards and not making sure than I have a CPU that will compliment them.
Let the insanity commence..

Well, I bit the bullet. I decided that if I was going to upgrade there would be no compromises. I ordered an Athlon 64 4600+ x2. No overclocking, no stress and 2 solid cores to let my 7800gtx breathe when I get it.
Thanks for all the help

I've read the "Ultimate 20/24PIN" thread... one thing I;m just a littl unsure of;
I plan to install a 7800GTX. My PSU is an Enermax Noisetaker 475w which is a very high efficiency PSU.
The thread mentions "20 pin to 24 pin connector not recommended for graphics cards about 6600GT". Has...
OK, so if I chose the 3800+ x2 ... do I need RAM that will overclock beyond standard DRR @400mhz, or can I overclock the CPU without pushing the RAM harder ?
I'm upgrading at the moment and have decided to get a 7800GTX in my new rig. I MIGHT get a second one depending on how a single card performs over the first few months.
I am also upgrading to an Athlon 64 processor. THe two I am considering are:
1. Athlon 64 3800+ x2 dual cire
2. Athlon...
OK, seems like a no-brainer then.. 3800 x2 is the way to go. I'm getting the Asus Premium SLI mobo to go with it, so where can I find a guide to how to overclock my 3800+ to 2.45ghz or whatever to achieve 4000+ single-core speeds ?

Following on from my previous post, I have narrowed my CPU purchase down to either:
Athlon 64 3800+ x2 Dual core
Athlon 64 4000+ single core
I'm not particularly excited about overclocking, I just want the best bang for buck for gaming. Am I better off plonking down for a 4000+ single...
I played DOD: Source for the first time today and now I'm a bit worried..
With my P4 3.2, 1gig ram and x800xt PE the game is still rather choppy.. in gunfights it can drop to 30fps.
Once I am pushing DOD:Source at 1920x1200.. even with the 7800GTX I'm worried I won't be able to maintain...
I did it. I bought a 2405FPW today. Should arrive in 3-4 days.
I've spent over a week reading all sorts of stuff about it.. but one thing was consistant.. forgetting reviews etc.. all ACTUAL high-end gamers that have bought one LOVE the display so that's enough for me.
I can't wait to see...
Hi All.
I'm upgrading my system at the moment...as and I was looking at a A8N-SLI premium mobo. This board has 2x PCI 16 slots.. running at 8x2.
The upcoming A8N32-SLI from Asus runs the 2 PCI-16 slots at full 16 speed. I've only managed to find a single review so far which suggested that...
Thanks dude.. are you getting 60fps consistantly in games at 1920x1200 with a single 7800gtx and the x2 3800 ? What games do you run ? Tried the FEAR demo at 1920x1200 yet ?

Hi all.
I currently have a Intel 3.2ghz Northwood and am looking to upgrade to PCIE and drop in a 7800gtx (or two!).
I've been reading a lot about the Athlon 64 as a great gaming CPU over the last 12 months, but I'm REALLY confused regarding clock speed, speed ratings etc.. specifically...
Hi guys.. this is my first post to these forums.
I am upgrading my gear at the moment. I am looking at an Athlon 64 single or dual core at around 3800+ with 2gig RAM and a 7800GTX (possibly a second one for SLI.. undecided).
I have been reading reviews on the Dell 2405FPW 24" LCD and they...
