I was looking at the Home 2009 version from Acronis and noticed it has a recovery console. Will this interfere with the windows recovery console built into the laptop for restoring the windows system?

well, I went and picked up a PSU tester and checked both my PSU in the computer and my spare PSU and they both check fine. I also pulled the power switch plug on at the mobo and that didn't have any effect on the computer. Any ideas what I should check next?

if I recall correctly I tried pulling the wires for the power plug and it didn't change anything. I will try that again though just to be sure. But when I plug in the PSU and flip the switch on the back to give the PSU power, it just starts running. Usually when you do that it will turn on...

hmm... yeah I haven't gotten a chance to test my power supply yet. Been busy doing some work to the house (getting more insulation in) and now I'm about to start working on my car. So probably after I'm done with my car and probably after the holidays at that point I can get around to checking...

I didn't see any capacitors that appeared to have burst or swelled. I did try pulling the power switch wires of the board and it still did the same thing. What should I use as a jumper? And am I only supposed to jump the power switch? Not like I need a reset switch or the power/hdd leds...

well, I just got done pulling everything and re-seating it all. I cleaned both the CPU and heatsink, pulled and re-seated the CPU, pulled the video card, pulled the memory, etc and re-seated it all and still the same thing. What has me confused is why is it that as soon as I flip the power...

yeah, I have the ArtiClean Thermal Material Remover and ArctiClean Thermal Surface Purifier. I know what you mean though, I just follow the instructions on the arctic silver website.

I did look for that after I thought I smelled something burnt but I couldn't see anything out of the ordinary. When I take everything out to re-seat it I will be sure to check over the board and see if I notice anything. Say I don't see anything like that, does that mean the board is fine or...

yeah, I have some cleaner and that if I remember correct. I use a coffee filter to clean it since it's lint free. And I only use about a grain of rice size of the thermal grease. I didn't think to look at the 115/220 switch but I don't think he did that since it's recessed down and harder...

I will go ahead and re-seat everything tonight and give it a shot. I should still have a tube or two of AS5 thermal grease. I can't recall hearing any beeps, but I will make sure I double check and listen for that as well. Thanks

I thought about taking one out of one of my computers but I'm currently reloading everything on my main computer so I've been using my other computer that I usually don't use much. Maybe once I have my main computer back we can try using the card from my other computer. In the meantime...

Cheap effective cooling

just wanted to add a couple things I've observed with my computer at work which probably doesn't have that great of airflow. The case has a 80mm side fan as an exhaust when it came to us. The fan isn't located inline with the HSF but rather right in the middle of the case which makes it more...

Oh dear... 74C on my Cel. D.

Even though those temps are better than you had before, I agree with zagood, I think you could see better temps than what you have now by reseating the HSF. On my computer at work, I had to reseat the HSF twice to get it right. I was having a little trouble getting used to the Intel 775 socket...

I have a question about memory

ok, got home and changed the setting. Rebooted the computer and everything is running fine. Temps are normal and has been running for about 30 min and nothing seems to be wrong. Thanks for everyones replies.

Oh dear... 74C on my Cel. D.

I have the Arctic Silver thermal paste remover (can't think of the exact name) but I think I read you could use rubbing alcohol. 1 tube of AS5 should last for multiple jobs. I used mine twice and still have a bunch left. edit: ArctiClean, thats what I have.

I would try reseating the HSF. Also, clean both the cpu and hs before reinstalling and follow the directions of the thermal compound your using to a "T". Putting to much doesn't help. I have a Celeron D 2.93 in one of my computers and it idles around 37* C and full load around 48* C. I'm...
