Considering finally getting the new PC parts

I just got laid off.

Yes jump on unemployment insurance immediately. You've been paying into that system for years... it's time to get something back! I've been laid off twice and I used the AZ UI both times with absolutely zero regrets.

How's this system look?

I just bought the 3200+ Venice over the 3000+ because of some multiplier thingy. The 3200 is 10x and the 3000 is 9x. Something to do with making it easier to overclock the 3200. As you can tell from my highly intelligent post, I know nothing about overclocking yet. But the 3200 was only 10...

What to look for in a surge protector / battery backup solution

X-Fi ExtremeMusic vs Audigy2 ZS for my specific setup

What about the Smart Volume Management feature. Can anyone tell me if there's any difference between these 2 cards? If it works well, this could be an important feature for me.

Will a 10k HD offer a large performance boost?

Funny, I hadn't really considered buying a 7200 SATA drive. I was thinking of getting a hard drive that upgraded not only from ATA to SATA but also from 7200 to 10k. I'll have to give this some more thought.

I ordered all my hardware last weekend (see sig), but I haven't decided if I should buy a WD Raptor 74GB 10k drive. I've currently got 2 160GB Seagate ATA100 drives and I can't decide if I should just stick those into the new system or not. Fry's has the Raptor on sale for $160 - $30 rebate...

PS Watts - Peak vs steady

I'm thinking about buying the FSP AX500-A 500W PS. I was just looking at the images and I noticed that 500W is the peak rating, while 460W is the steady (for lack of a better word, and lack of knowledge) rating. I would like to buy the DFI LP UT nF4 Ultra-D motherboard, and I read somewhere...

Venice 3000 or 3200

The 3200+ is $152 on NewEgg, so it's $60 more for that Opteron.

The 3000+ and 3200+ are basically the same price now. From what I've gathered from this thread, if I use a DFI LP Ultra-D then the 3200+ is the way to go. Am I thinking correctly?
