HOW to network 2 comps

use gigacluster's instructions but use a crossover cable. you MUST use a crossover cable if you are not using a hub. it will not work otherwise.

rc5 is what distributed.net works to crack (well one type at least). RC5 is a way of encrypting information. the reason they are working on cracking it is to show that it needs to be stronger. the stronger encryption is the better for all of us.

the heat issue is a HUGE one. Ive noticed a difference in temp running rc5 on just ONE computer in my room from when im not running it. Youd be surprised at the extra air conditioning needed to cool off one room full of computers running RC5. i work in a lab and I know just how hot it can get...

Wierd Monitor Problem *PF790*

they said they havent heard of the problem before? ok... basically what probably happened was that the switch that your computer uses to adjust the voltage to switch resolutions (and set the first on res) died. Happened to me once.

Does the OS you run have an effect on your o/c?

ME BSOD's all the time anyway... really tho, the OS you run does have an effect of stability, depending on how it handles errors. BeOS (god rest its beautiful soul) did this like a champ, and so I could OC a lot better with it than 98 on the same machine.

I hate via chipsets

I would kill to see an AMD chip on an intel chipset. if there is anything intel still knows how to do well it is make good chipsets (ok lets forget about the i810, we know it was crap) VIA makes chipsets with plenty of features but they perform abysmally

I wasnt saying you were deliberately lying or anything, just that you were wrong in saying that 'You can't switch from ACPI to non ACPI (or vice versa) after the OS is installed.' I know that MS does not recommend it, and that it could possibly cause problems, but it isnt likely that it will...

actually from what Ive heard ECP1.7 is faster than 1.9 I cant speak for the truth of that and it is hearsay, but the person who mentioned it is someone that I respect so Im more like to believe it. Not that I use parallel for anything anyway. its all about USB printing

What's the best for my MS Explorer Mouse: USB or PS/2?

actually USB is higher CPU useage, but you wont even notice it. USB really is the only way to go. the better refresh rate and the extra IRQ you get is very very worth it
