Any Gamer go Dual Core and regret it?

CS:S Problems probably related to dual core

Problems with CS:S

Yeah 2.4 is still pretty damn fast for a dual core, and it's a $630 dollar CPU for $320 so I don't really have anything to complain about, however it did look like it was going to do okay on 2.5 @ 1.52, but temps hit 57 so I said screw it and am dropping it back down to 2.4. EPoX is rated highly...

By the way, when the XP-90 is installed there is always a tiny bit of the chip visible and not covered by the heatsink right, just like a little 1mm or so edge on one side? I thought this was a bit off but didn't look like there was any way to avoid this so I thought nothing of it.

Well looks like this is just a pretty weak X2. I don't think it can do 2.5 even at 1.52Vcore. Guess I'll just have to be satisfied with 2.4, which I am but I was hoping that the XP-90 could help me take it a bit higher, but guess not. Oh well.

Yeah I was thinking that may be the problem, but looks like it is running @ 2.5 at 1.5 (bios) VCore. The PSU is a 450FSP, which is pretty strong and lot's of people with OC'd X2's have them, so I don't know if it is to blame. I might need something a bit more powerful but I really don't have...

Ok nevermind 2.5 is probably going to be max stable, if even that. What the hell is up with the voltage readings on this though? It's 1.52 when idle and then I start up P95 and it goes to 1.46-1.475!?

Hmm that's weird. Is 1.52 a safe voltage to run an X2 at? I think this is pretty much as high as I want to push it with the XP-90, but I am pretty sure I can get prime stable 255 x 10 at this voltage...

Should I pop out the IO panel by my NVSilencer?

Well the NVSilencer is supposed to shoot air out the back of the case, so should I pop out the IO panel right behind the exhaust on the NVSilencer? I know it's probably a dumb question...

Zebo's guide says not to worry to much about temps because the motherboard diodes are often very inaccurate and if you have a chip that is running to hot it should fail Prime anyway. Does anyone else use this method?

So either you live in an oven or ASUS has problems reading temps too? I am priming at 2.5 now and 1.5V in the BIOS (reported around 1.46 in CPU-Z though) and temps are 51C and still may be still climbing (I just started a few minutes ago.)

Yeah my EPoX reports 1.45 in BIOS and skips around a bunch in Windows but this is pretty normal I suppose. I am guessing from these previous posts that EPoX has bad temperature and voltage monitioring?

Priming right now @ 2.4Ghz and 1.41V. I don't think I will ever understand the volts on this board... Dang EPoX. Getting 51C load which again, seems sorta high. Already reapplied thermal compound, the heatsink is mounted just fine.... maybe my temps just suck or the motherboard readouts are bad...?

This Epox board is real screwy and overvolts the thing to 1.45 stock. Also I believe they are around 1.39 or 1.4 stock but I could be wrong so don't quote me on that. I guess I could undervolt it and put it back at 2.0ghz but I don't think it's necessary when it was already running just as cool...

Reinstalled the heatsink and thermal paste. The previous coating on thermal paste maybe was a bit too thick, but I don't really think it would have been so much to do that. Anyway idling now at 33-34C @ 2.4 1.45V. We'll see what happens. I think my X2 may just kinda suck though, it's a CCBWE...

Loose corner as in one of the clips isn't attached? Nope they are all attached however I am not sure if it is on the right way. I put it so that the extended fins go over the RAM modules because it wouldn't fit on the other way anyway because the power connector to my mobo is in the way.

So how much should temps improve after it has burned in? Also I used the stuff that Thermalright boxes with their products because it scored right inbetween AS5 and Ceramique and the difference was about 1C. EDIT: Also should I lower it to stock speeds to allow the paste to burn in?

Questions regarding the installation of NVSilencer and XP-90

I just put the fins over the RAM because some people were saying it helped to cool them down more, which doesn't really make any sense to me but it works. Idle temps have dropped 2C from the time I installed the heatsink, is this the thermal compound settling in?

Crap I got another one, I put the fan so it was blowing downwards, but the wires are poking out from under the fan, and they got inbetween gaps in the fins of the XP-90. I don't really want to pinch one of these wires as that might roast my CPU, but I am assuming they will be fine since they go...
