Need some advice in upgrading soundcard

I'd seriously recommend the x-fi series of sound cards. After going around for advice and all that, the sound quality is really good due to the 24-bit crystalliser. But the xtreme music is supposedly only entry-level for the x-fi series. If you game, the x-fi fata1ity would be great coz it has...

Do headphones support 5.1 surround sound? Or will I be stuck with 2.1? The card Im getting is the Audigy2 Value btw

Hmm, for now I'm just intending to get the Audigy 2 Value Soundcard and pair it with my existing speakers *which came with my pc* and some generic headphones..probably getting better peripherals next year or something. Definitely won't be getting those Gigaworks speakers which cost a lot

I'm going to use this card primarily for gaming, so would you guys recommend me using headphones or a speaker configuration? Also, I've read that a 5.1 speaker configuaration (instead of 7.1) is generally recommended for gaming, but supposing I have very little space in my room, am I supposed...

olol guys don't worry about hijacking because its meant to be a sound card thread...so long as we dont stray off topic all of us can gain something from this! anw the x-fi series is filthy expensive..and its the recommended sound card for F.E.A.R

I'm deciding between the Soundblaster LIve!24 bit and the Audigy Value ( not the Audigy 2 ZS). I'm getting it for gaming and listening to some music...the hardware accelerated EAX interests me particularly. Could you guys give me some advice on what to choose? I'm kinda on a budget too....

Thx for the quick reply lol Will 512MB be important for playing the latest 3D games? Some say it isn't really that necessary as of now...but benchmarks from F.E.A.R and COD2 show otherwise.. :(

Will two 7800GT cards in SLI give me a memory buffer of 512MB? Do they actually add up? Sorry if this sounds stupid...but...thx in advance for advice

Well I should think your PSU of choice is sufficient...,though it really depends on what other parts you have in a rig...whether they are power hungry or otherwise..

Well you could probably opt for those overclocked ones from vendors such as BFG, Leadtek, or the ASUS Extreme versions. The Leadtek card's overclocked at 450/1.05Ghz I think. That's the one I'm gonna get. Comes with a great game bundle too. About your second question....well I think Nvidia...

Thanks for the reply! Well yeah MSI does have the Creative Soundblaster Live bundled together... Hmm I do intend to upgrade to a dual-core and add additional sticks of RAM down the road...when prices drop..will that cause compatability problems as so many have experienced?
