    Biostar good bad?

    A vote for the Biostar M7NCG 400. Have several builds w/XP's to Sempron's. All using onboard video which has been a pleasent surprise. It limits you to PC 2700/dual channel but thats seems to work. Longest running /18 months and NO PROBLEMS to date w/ a variety of user types. Very stable board.

    Heroes Of Might and Magic. All of the varieties down the road. Still play Shadow of Death... Mostly w/the random map generator. Got to throw in a little Diablo II for hack and slash. :D

    Another Biostar M7NCG 400 Question

    Several of these w/same specs as yours all w/Antec 300 or 350 watt PS. Win 2k SP4 and XP SP1/OS- Athlons 2k-Barton 2.5k- all have Maxtor ATA 133, 7200 rpm drives. None have problems to date(roughly 12 mos/ longest in use) but I tend to agree that it's heat or power related. What PS are you using...

    Which Battery Backup do you reccomend?

    LEAD... I've had real good luck w/Belkin UPS products. From the Pro Gold 650's to the Universal 800's. Have gotten my systems through some hiry storms and crumby line power. Have used a couple of APC and no probs there either.

    Presently have four of these in the water and all are doing just fine. Ranging from XP2000+ to Barton 2500+, all w/on board graphics in use. Do not believe graphics is being tested w/ major games, but to date no user complaints. Version 1.0 and 7.0 w/7.2 coming. No overclocks but a stable board...

    I've had good luck with Memorex DVD +R. I'm using the Plextor 708A. No probs as yet.:)

    USB thumb drives - best?

    Definately the USB 2.0 version. I'm liking the Memorex 256mb drive. Just a handy gadget, only problem is I keep misplacing it!!!. :D

    Recommend a good laser printer w/ USB

    Try the Brother HL-1440-15PPM-2MB standard onboard ram, use some FPM or EDO 72 pin you might have laying around for more. I have not had any probs w/this printer-USB/PARALLEL. Should be had for around your pricing.

    Loud pop....then nothing...

    Blew a one off a Gigabyte board once but was like launching a small rocket. So definately physical evidence present for me. Suppose could be different result depending on how much of whatever the cause. Agreed that mb is probable culprit.

    Did a fresh install of win 2k +SP4 and then all available patches. Box will not power off. Get a dialog box w/safe to turn off your computer and box stays powered up. Nothing special -20 gig Maxtor, Gigabyte 32 mb vid card (Nvidia chip) ATX case of course w/Antec 300 wt PS. Any ideas... I know...

    Experiences with Biostar M7NCG 400

    Have built 4 systems using this mb. AMD XP 2000+ to Barton 2500+. Up about 3 months now w/no problems whatsoever. The builds on all went smoothly encorporated Crucial memory. Would continue to use in system builds where applicable.

    Two micro atx mbs...MSI- KM2M Combo-L and BIOSTAR M7VIG PRO but both 2xDDR Dimms AND 2xSDRAM Dimms. Sooooo guess you still be in the same boat.

    How is the Logitech mx500/mx700

    I also have the MX 700 and consider it one of the best. Do not game alot but is accurate and responds well. No issues with battery or charger. Left off the charger a couple of days with plenty of charge still in it.

    Biostar M7NCD Problem

    Well I must be lucky as I've built four machines (in the last two months) using the Biostar boards ranging from Amd 1700+ to a Barton 2800+. They all built w/o a hitch one and run just fine. BTW owned a Biostar in '93 w/ Pentium 100 and no problems there either.

    How is this case (slk3700)?

    I've got 2 of these working now. One w/ Athlon XP 2100+ and the other w/ Athlon 2800+/Barton. Excellent cooling properties w/good PS. Lots of room too. Ordered 2 more today. Would definately recommend this case.

    Are all UPS garbage?

    I've used mostly Belkin 300-400 watt rated. Look for the deals and still spend $65-115. All have performed well w/no glitches and plenty of hits. Oldest is 3 years. Even have one on a Toshiba 32" flat screen HDTV. Mine have been worth every penny!:D

    Remove the video card and reinstall it. Make sure you have "AGP" selected as the primary source in your bios.

    I believe you can only use dual channel with memory rated no faster than PC 2700 w/nforce2.

    Installed more Maxtors by far than the IBM drives. Had good luck with both. Maxtor by shear numbers.

    Win 2k and firmware

    Installed an Aopen 1232a cdrw on a Win2000 machine and am trying to determine what firmware version the cdrw is using. Win98SE would tell you in the device manager but can not seem to find the info in Win2000. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Did the same thing, ended up pulling the bios chip and sent to MSI. They reprogramed and sent back to me. My cost was the shipping to them. They shipped back 3day USPS in an envelope.
