The case does need more light.....can't see any of my goodies through the case window. I have never used cathode tubes but I may have to.....not much selection for LED-based fans of that size!
Of my 4 drives, one is strictly for video capture, one to receive/store the processed video, and one for backup. I also backup to an external hard drive (typically disconnected for safety) and backup to DVD-R.
Unless you want to pay HiDef prices, MiniDV can't be beat. A lot of it comes down to number and size of CCD's when you are talking about quality. I have a Panasonic GS500 and it is excellent.
I did some quick benchmarking via a stopwatch and DVD Shrink (w/ deep analysis) dropped several minutes off of a full size DVD. I never benchmark my games so I can't offer any info there.
I moved from a 4400 to a 185 and I noticed a difference in encoding times. I also bought it mainly for the OC potential even though I have yet to OC it.
The retail stuff isn't bad. I noticed a few degrees drop in temp with AS5 on my 4400. Still running the retail stuff in my new Opteron 185....but it only hits 51 degrees on load according to Core Temp....I will eventually put the AS5 on it too. I have done the rice method but may try the CC...
I prefer AMD's as long as they are somewhat competitive. If not, Intel FTW. Little things count too...look at the nice HSF AMD puts on their high-end x2's and all Opterons...look at the garbage Intel uses for cooling. I have read post after post about how some users almost snapped their mobos...
Without having multiple hard drives you won't have an ideal setup for video editing.....I run 3 hard drives. One for the OS, one for the video capture/source file, one for the output.
Speaking from the perspective of a long-time Access user...move that thing over to SQL Server ASAP if it is that huge. Corruption will eventually be knocking on your door if it hasn't already.
I am running the stock firmware on my GL. It's version 4.30.0 I haven't bothered to mess with 3rd party stuff yet.
I was mostly concerned about getting a decent router/switch. The G and GS sound like they are crap so I went with the GL based on the large amount of positive comments and...
Does anyone know if the NL35's are more reliable for the average user/gamer in a non-RAID system?
There seem to be a lot of problems reliability-wise with the 7800.8 series. The 7800.9's are for sale as Refurbs already...indicating a lot of returns on a fairly new product series. Either...
I like mine a lot. I wish there was more aluminum and less plastic. Make sure you know what sequence to remove the side/front panels or risk a bit of damage to the "back" side panel.
I am using a Hauppage PVR 250....works perfect for converting VHS movies. I tried a Canopus 110 (DV converter) but I had firewire issues that I couldn't resolve so I got rid of it.
Check this site for tons of Hauppage info...good and bad.
