  2. Question USB thumbdrive (64GB and larger), format to FAT32

Good morning from a lurker. I have a colleague trying to format 64GB USB thumbdrives to FAT32 on a Windows10 laptop. He's using the PowerShell command: format /FS:FAT32 F: It's apparently not working. Is there a way to format to FAT32 without resorting to third-party app? Thanks!
  3. Your neighbor is on a sexual offenders list, how would you deal with this situation?

If sexual offender = molested a child, raped someone, exposes themselves, etc then they are history. Disassociate quickly. If sexual offender = got caught peeing in parking lot (to avoid uromysitisis), then laugh it off, share some beers...and keep an eye on my car.
  4. One of my friends got fired from his job at a keyboard factory

  6. K-pop band BTS forced to join military; SK to lose BILLIONS in tourism dollars because of it.

Most likely they will all be in the KATUSA program...Korean Augmentation to the US Army. It will be a cake walk for them. Work, sleep, and eat with U.S. soldiers. The ROK Army is another story. The ROK Army is a beast they want no part of. Those guys are serious hard core.
  7. Need help cracking an old Mosler combo safe/filing cabinet.

<unlurking> If it's double walled and old...and you don't mind destroying it...then a circular saw will do the trick. Plenty of vids out there showing how. If you want to keep it intact, then find a reputable locksmith. It'll cost a few $, but it will save the safe. <re-lurking>
  8. What is dangerous levels of RF?

    It's non-ionizing radiation. OSHA standards are 10 mW/cm^2. If I'm doing my lurker math right, you're at 3.4 mW/cm^2
  9. Home winemaking -- anybody else?

I used to be into wine making. Started off with a kit wine...worked my way to buckets of juice from Cali...then went to grapes. I had all the equipment: destemmer/crusher, press, corker, stainless steel vats. It was fun but time consuming...and a mess. I had some good wines and some not so good.
  10. Lost an engine on a flight yesterday

Not an engine failure, but a little unnerving at the time. Went up for a maintenance test flight on an OV-1D Mohawk...I was the ballast in the right seat. The pilot had to shut down the right engine as part of the checkout. It was a little freaky to see the prop not turning when you're high in...

  12. Should I allow my neighbor access to my property to limb up a tree?

OP: Are you on city sewage or septic? If septic, will the "pros" be driving heavy equipment over your drain field? Just one more thing to think about.
  13. Electric race cars

MotoGP is starting to introduce E-bikes. They are fast as heck...and eerily quiet. No as fast as the Premier Class bikes...but they still haul butt.
  14. Should police only have rubber bullets loaded and leave the lethal ammunition to SWAT?

wow...lots of ignorance here. Why is this in OT and not in P&N?

  16. YAGT: OMG I love guns

John Lovell (Warrior Poet Society) did a nice sober video on the topic. Basically, what are you willing to do to protect your family? And if you choose not to protect, are you willing to accept the consequences (death, rape, injury, etc. of loved ones). It's not even just about something...

  19. Do you live in the South

In Bama...moved down from super liberal and tax-happy CT. Yes, AL fits most sterotypes...but Huntsville does not. i think this city is towards the top of the list for most engineers and PhD's....or something like that. <edit> just posted after ewdotson. Yes, there's some Deep South stuff here...
  20. Laser gun sights

Hey, Space. That it not necessarily true. There are plenty of videos, discussion, opinions, and what not on the subject. It basically, as stated by others, comes down to training. Most people will spend significantly more time searching the target for the laser dot, rather than if they used...
  21. Laser gun sights

Nothing against lasers here... A laser in a dark room will help you line up on an intruder, but will may give away your position if you are scanning the room (just like a light). Just food for thought. Using the laser in normal lighting, the tendency is to search the target for the laser dot...
  22. Gun Nuts Rejoice!

Hey, Jules. You're okay. There's nothing wrong with how you see yourself as a gun owner. Don't change to meet our view points. I think some of us, including (or at least) myself, are just trying to point out that: If a gun owner is depending on a firearm for home defense, they have to do...
  23. Gun Nuts Rejoice!

Whoah! Hold up a little, fellas. Let's help Sphinx get a firearm in his hands before we worry about room clearing techniques. Sphinx, maybe make a list of what you would like or not like in a handgun. Do you want a DA/SA hammer fired? Do you want a DA striker fired only? You you want a safety...
  24. Gun Nuts Rejoice!

I don't want to derail this thread on a 45ACP vs 9mm debate. There's pros and cons to both. And I like 45s, but I go with 9 for EDC. I urge you to read up on the FBI studies. They did a thorough re-analysis of 9mm penetration and expansion. (Google something like: FBI 9mm studies). A key...
  25. Gun Nuts Rejoice!

To restate what's been mentioned above...go to your local shop and rent a few before you purchase. If you're new to handguns, then I would think about a revolver...something along the lines of a 357...since you can fire 38s from it. But if you want a semi, then I would think about a...

  27. So, what is the best 1911 handgun?

<unlurk> I have an FNX-9. Love it. I got it at the beginning of the year and have put a tad over a 1,000 rounds through it. Not a single failure or misfeed. Trigger feel is on par for both double and single actions. <re-lurk>

  30. I've been getting solicitations for "water pipe insurance"

Lurker unlurking. I'm the guy who had a line break outside the house. I used to (recently) live in a 100 y.o. house. We got the same type of mailings. We eventually signed up for about $120 a year. The next year our outgoing drain pipe (i.e. sewage) collapsed from tree roots. Old clay...
  31. Did you ever play baseball & football when you were young?

Well, you're using an athlete as your example. And I know there are strong and very capable females in the military. I served with some. But I saw my fair share of females who could barely muster enough push-ups to pass a PT test and have never done anything athletic in their lives. I'm not...
  32. Did you ever play baseball & football when you were young?

Un-lurking. I'd go out on a limb and say most of the issues are probably the female recruits. But they can't say that.
  33. Dilemma: have to rat out the boss

Most companies have rules against retaliation. Ones that can get him (the boss) fired. Talk to HR and see if they have these rules in place.
  34. Natural Gas Fireplace Burning Propane...how bad?

For our case, that's what was done. They changed out the system, cleaned, and made sure everything worked properly. It was pretty obvious they (the fireplace company) supplied the fireplace unit to the builder, but the builder had one of his workers install it. Oh, well. New homes have their...
  35. Natural Gas Fireplace Burning Propane...how bad?

It turns out, more than one house in our development had the issue. Someone even reported their water heater (on LP) was still setup for natural gas.
  36. Natural Gas Fireplace Burning Propane...how bad?

Well, I'd have to say...as hindsight. The flame did look large, regardless of the setting (hi to low).
  37. Natural Gas Fireplace Burning Propane...how bad?

How bad is it to have a fireplace configured for natural gas actually burning propane? The reason I ask.... Recently moved into a new construction house with a gas fireplace, which is connected to a LP tank. There are two D cell batteries as backup for power loss. A wall switch turns it...
