X58 + ECC + SATA 6GBPS is impossible to find.

All the logical circuitry is in the ram and CPU, as far as I know with the X58 design. Just the same, those circuits need to be able to talk to one another, which I believe requires additional tracings built into the motherboard. I may be wrong (it happens all the time...), but for full ECC...

Asus Rampage III Extreme release date here

Any body overclocking an Opteron 185?

More case fans won't help much - except to make things noisy. Ambient temp IN the case is 25-28C under load. As for a faster fan for the ninja...it already moves 36.9 CFM... which is no slouch. ...looks like im on my own with this 20 degree increase...

chipset fan not spinning

See if a Zalman NB-47J heatsink will fit onto that board. If so, clip the old fan off it, clean the underlying chip, apply some NON-CONDUCTIVE thermal interface (such as Arctic Silver CERAMIQUE), and bolt the heatsink onto it. I did this mod intentionally on one of my 939 boards. If the NB47J...

Case cleanliness vs. Airflow

You might find that the filters make quite a difference, even if they are perfectly clean. I have some older posts somewhere in these forums, where I benchmarked my CPU temps with a variety of filters / doors in either open/removed/closed state. In my P180, just last wek, I cleaned the filter...

Best option for Socket 939?

Yup...overclocking that puppy will achieve most of the remaining potential from the "939 platform" If it doesn't overclock well, you might pick up an Opteron 165 for CHEAP, and try it instead.

Any body overclocking an Opteron 185?

Yeah, I had the same concerns with the Ninja (and briefly a Zalman 9500), in that no airflow is directed down onto the chipset. It really leaves the northbridge and surroundings running too hot... Of course, noone would dispute the efficiency of a properly-mounted Ninja either...at roughly 0.19...

Any body overclocking an Opteron 185?

Picked up an Opteron 185 a week or so ago... Installed nicely, replacing Opteron 170. It running now at 2.6 GHz (stock speed), with 1.35 volts. Curiously, it was unstable at 1.30 volts, usually within 2 minutes. The stepping is supposedly pretty good, being a CCB1E 0606VPMW - many of which...

Trying to decide on a new Processor - 4800+, 185, or FX-60?

Myocardia is most likely correct - an Opteron 185 will almost CERTAINLY hit 2.8 very easily, and there are lots of overclocks posted to support this fact... Starting with 2.6, the extra 200 is not even a 10% OC... Something probably attainable on stock voltage. Finally, the OP never mentioned...

Neat...except I have a hard time believing you. That car tops out at about that speed...and I have yet to meet someone on Anandtech who was crazy enough to lay down 1.1 million U$ for a CAR. A boat - maybe, but not a car....

In an earlier post, I exposed my ignorance about the 64-bit compatibility of Conroe - replied after that I'd eat my words... A bit more research, and I've done even better - sold all my stock in AMD, and picked up several hundred of INTC...now if only I'd done it LAST week, before AMD's bottom...

Well, I'm now at least *partially* enlightened... In all honesty, I didn't think it was 64 bit... but a quick bit of research suggests that it is 64-bit compatible. Curiously, 15 minutes of browsing the Intel site failed to uncover this fact... Still smells fishy - I'll be looking forward to...

Stock fans on the 7600GTs - better or worse than the 7900GTs?

I thought the 7600 GT and the 7900 GT used the same cooler... Keep in mind the 7900 GTX uses a *much* quieter cooling solution. also, check out the reviews on the 3rd party cooler called the "KuFormula VF1" -A

two things: 1. HDTV as a monitor is agreat idea BUT...be prepared to fight with overscan issues. I've done this a few times now, and have had to really fight with the PC and / or tv to work out the bugs in scaling. 1:1 mapping does look great, but isn't usually easy to achieve 2. Studies...

Whos got a rare CPU?

I also have a K6-III (non-plus-type)...which I think are rarer than the + type which were later released for laptops. The thing was still being used until about 18 months ago...overclocked from 450 to 550!

What is making my computer noisy?

Pick up a second hand Ninja or Zalman 7700...specifically something with a bigger fan - bigger may not be better, but its usually alot quieter whereever fans are concerned. You can usually track down noise levels for your parts on the web - just combine something like "Leadtek 6600GT" with "dB"...

Titanium heatpipes

We probably all know a bit about the thermal characteristics of various heatpipes/heatsinks. Is there perhaps a thermal characteristic to titanium which makes it suitable for a heatpipe? Can anyone comment on its thermal characteristics, sompared with, say, silver or copper? -A

Fanboy rants aside, there is *one* reason you might definitiely want the 7900GTX... And thats if you ever plan on running linux. ATI linux drivers are stuck in 1998...
