SLI almost never worth it. Most games scale very bad. Still waiting for VR which should give it the most efficient boost with 1card per eye. They still have not figured it out yet.
The 6S line is very much not waterproof/resistant . They did add sticky tape around the front frame. But i get more 6S phones in for water damage than the 6.
I think Air 2 is superior to iPad 5th Generation (2017). (Yeah the retardedly refer to it as 5th gen on apples site.) The A9 is really not much faster than the tricore A8 as I switch between a Pro and Air 2 alot. Compared to the Air1 A7 though its a huge difference. The Pro's battery life is...
I think hyperthreading is ultimately pulling Ryzen back as I feared. When you have 8 physical cores, you don't really need hyperthreading anymore, it is just spreading resources thin for no reason. But it was needed more for marketing vs Intel, so they had to do it. Turn it off and we get much...
You don't even need to do that going from a Sandy Pentium to a Skylake Pentium is like lightning. You really can't tell a difference in basic web browsing and video watching.
we really need the good old days where amd destroyed intels p4. Intel survived fine, while AMD had the performance crown. anything less we might not see amd for much longer.
I upgraded from a 2500 to a Skylake 6700 @ 4.6GHz, and it feels buckets faster. I even reused my samsung 830 and it feels more than fast enough. Itching to upgrade my work Ivy bridge, i've since upped that bad boy to 4.5GHz, but it still doesn't feel nearly as snappy, and that one has a 840Pro...
Threw in a 460GTX into an HP with a core 2 quad core q8200 that i got off the street (literally 3 of them sitting on the curb). They play Overwatch really amazingly.
Will 2XX series mobos have USB 3.1 native support? Might wait for that, but i have a few skylakes lying around already, but really like Windows 7 at the office.
Darn I sold my 6 plus travel phone and looking to replace it with a 7, but it just has so many knocks against it. No headphone jack is a dealbreaker as i lose my heaphones a lot and ordered a dozen Xaoimi $2 heaphones to put everywhere. The home button feels like crap...has no feel. The haptic...
It really depends on your taste. Generally if you have to ask, you are no an audiophile to dump tons of money on something totally subjective. All sounds card have a sound signature that are different. Not necessarily "better." Money is better spent on better speakers or headphones. Speakers are...
Love SSDs. Gonna check through my newegg orders. Love the competition less we end up like the HDD manufacturers!
Started with the 80GB Intel X25M-G2 that one that started mainstreaming it all!
I've only ever had 1 SSD RMA and it was a Sandisk Ultra 1
Just upgraded my skylake system from...
Single thread perf is the most important in everyday use. Just o/cing a skylake from the stock 3.4GHz to 4.5GHz, and webpages snap that much faster. Just go to the store and play with two identical systems, you will find the AMD will be way less snappy.
The blck o/cing in skylake is pretty...
Im a HUGE homeworld fan, Desserts was pretty disappointing compared to all the OG homeworld games. Also people forget to mention Desserts uses the Unity engine, basically a mobile phone platform. They did a pretty decent job though with such a simple platform.
I don't think you'll see a lick of difference. I have a new HTPC/Torrent server, had a skylake Pentium G4400 ($65). I have a 6700 lying around and put it in for shits and giggles because my friend wanted a cheap system, so i stole the Pentium from the HTPC. I notice absolutely no difference...
Its really up to the motherboard manufacturer implementation, they are offering o/c for non K processors, so you just have to wait for a good DDR3 mobo to come out.
As long as your ambient temperature isn't too insane, like under 113F/45C, any tower cooler will be sufficient.
I've been mining coins for almost 2 years and have a dozen Radeons pegged at 90C for that long and still running fine.
Wow after 2 days of trying everything (4 windows reinstalls and tons of drivers) I think I finally found the stupid thing causing it.
The first 4 SATA slots are SATA-Express and share with the top 2 m.2 slots. I figure I'd save those open for with then 950Pro become cheap enough, and i was...
I built a new Skylake system with Asrock Z170 Extreme7, Corsair DDR4 3000 memory, and geforce 970 and Windows 10 takes a long time to resume, like 8-10 seconds. It would be in random places in the resume session. Sometimes the screen is black for a long time, sometimes i get the login screen but...
Teracopy was amazing in XP days, nothing came close. Especially useful is when you copy more than 1 operation, XP would do it concurrently and thrash your hard drives making it way slower, while tera would wait. Also would show transfer rates. It was still useful in Vista, as vista had terrible...
If you want good batteries look for anything made in Japan. Panasonic bought out most of the battery companies now. There are counterfeits out there though.
I got some Corsair LPX at the egg for $100: 3000mhz @ 15-17-17. So far running them at 3200 15-17-17 rock solid. Might try to get 14-15-15 or maybe 3400 15-17-17. Most DDR4 are pretty mature and o/c pretty easily. Look around for cheaper ram. Most RAM are really same stuff they just adjust...
Optane sounds cool, but how much layers of caching do we need! We are at 10!
L1, L2, L3, then broadwell L4 graphics memory, then DDR4, the Xpoint, then DRAM cache on SSD and the SLC flash in front of TLC flash lol
Just upgraded my 2700k home pc as i was getting bored of it, didn't expect too much, was going to do Haswell, but got so lazy i just sold the parts for what i got it for. Man Heroes of the storm runs like butter with the same vid card.
Makes me want to wait for Skylake-E, but I already have a 6700K on its way. Still picking out a motherboard though. I remember I went through topographys back in the old days to make sure I didn't have the soundcard mixed in with the USB. Looks like we have to go through all that again. I...
The Z170-A Looks freakin gorgeous. But it is hampered by older Realtek Audio and there are just a lot of bad customer service issues with Asus. I might have to skip Asus this build. You can just look at the top of hard forums mobo section to see. The Pro Gamer has advantage on pretty much...
I'm trying to find a cheapo card to run a 34" ultrawide for my friend. He only does office work so doesn't need any gaming card. I have it hooked up right now to a Radeon HD 5450 on HDMI running at 30hz. Its not that bad for office work, but would rather get it at optimal refresh rates. Most...
If would be nice of a reviewer can compare all the mobo sound systems. I will admit i have a hard time telling them apart, but the old Audigys/soundblasters did have a warmer sound. I'm only using Swan and Klipsch Promedias, where are decent, but not that high end speakers (my dad is an...
I think you'll need to wait for native USB 3.1 for some real futureproofing. I do a lot of work cloning disk and xfering data and would really like the bandwidth when they come out with 3.1 docks. Really disappointed that z107 only has addon cards. Still prob a year away, but i think 3.1 is...
Win 10 beta right now has TONs of bugs. I just installed it fresh on on Lenovo and tons of crazy things happen. Screen would freeze and a command line would pop up. The start menu sometimes doesn't work for 5 minutes. Shutdown gives errors. Hopefully they can get things really sorted when final.
