Windows partition will not boot, even in safe mode.

I'll try the partitioning thing, thanks. And no, no new hardware.

Windows partition will not boot, even in safe mode.

My Windows partition has been acting up for some reason. Basically, when I try starting it up, it'll reboot halfway through the screen with the Windows logo and the loading bar. Booting up in safe mode gives me a BSOD with no useful information. It says that it's dumping the memory, but... well...

Opteron 165 stock HSF or Zalman 7000Cu?

I already bought the 7000Cu, but upon opening my new Opty 165 I was surprised to see such a high end HSF in it. Any benchmarks of speed/temp between the two? Side-note: The stock already has a thermal pad on it, so if I do end up using it, how does one take the stuff off? I want to replace...

Taking a giant step ...from Radeon 7500 to X1900XT

As people have said, the difference will be huge. You''re jumping five card generations... I don't think I'd be making an overstatement if I said that you could expect a 10x to 20x performance gain from your old games, and you'll be able to play all the tihngs that wouldn't play at all on your...

    Sooo... Question about VIVO.

Bump for good measure. Anybody else have opinions on the speed? And how could I forget analog tuners? *doh*

    Sooo... Question about VIVO.

Topic title is pretty self-explanatory. Are VIVO connections fast enough to plug in a console (a GCN, specifically) and play without any significant lag between a buttonpress and an action on the screen? Does it differ between ATi's and nVidia's implementations? And, on a side note...

    XFX 7900GT, $235 AMIR/ Sapphire X1800XT, $219 AMIR/ @ the egg

....Holy. That's one hell of a price, I might jump on it. Cardio, I haven't really heard any bad things about XFX's support. Any links?

highest quality laptop / notebook brand?

I've had very good experiences with IBM Thinkpads, and my parents are both extremely happy with their Lenovo Thinkpads. Apparently, build quality hasn't gone down at all after the switch. If you aren't looking for pure power, however, I'd really recommend an Apple laptop. I've played around...

Can I expect AMD s939 price drops any time soon?

    Well, I'm personally trying to get a 939 Opty 165. I know they're $300, but... well, let's put it this way. I'm poor. :D

HOT! eVGA 7900GT CO retail at CircuityCity.com for $232.23 plus tax; good thru 4/29/06 -- OOS?

Huh, that's not the one I have. Interesting. Could the catalogs be different across different states?

HOT! eVGA 7900GT CO retail at CircuityCity.com for $232.23 plus tax; good thru 4/29/06 -- OOS?

I've got the CC catalog I got with my NY Times this week, and I can't find said coupon. Just to be sure it's the same one the topic creator is talking about, is it the one with the green frontpage, with an HP computer, iPod Shuffle, and Sony digital camera?

ALright what do the newer generation cards equal to in the older geneneration

Well, I actually meant my (deceased ;_; ) desktop with a Radeon 9700, but.... Wow. I had no idea I was so behind the times. I guess it really is time for me to upgrade. So how exactly do the newer cards do so well even with lower clock speeds and lower amount of pipelines? Just out of curiosity.

ALright what do the newer generation cards equal to in the older geneneration

So, out of curiosity, how does my old 9700 stack up? Looking at some of the benchmarks at Futuremark ORB, I've been amazed to find that my 9700 is actually a worse performer than even the X1300. Is this just because of the tests that are used in 3dmark05/06? Or is my video card just really that...

Which language do you prefer the sound of?

I'm a westerner, but I am learning Japanese at school, and intend to take Mandarin next year. From my experience, I do prefer the sound of Japanese over the Mandarin that I've heard. Japanese is basically a mix of the vowels "ah," "ee," "ooh," "eh," and "oh" with basic consonants that you can...

Logitech MX700 - High-pitched whine when I move mouse around.

I've already Googled and searched AT for any mentions of this happening to anybody else, but to no avail. Basically, whenever I move the mouse around, the receiver/charger makes a high-pitched whine. It's not very loud, but it's somewhat annoying. Also, when it's charging (If I can even get the...

What is Dell's policy on dead pixels?

Well, I called tech service after being redirected (read: hung up on) by customer service, and the guy said that I couldn't return it. But I definitely am under the 21-day guarantee. Total Satisfaction? I'm not totally satisfied. Meh.

What is Dell's policy on dead pixels?

I recieved a 2005FPW about a week ago, but it has a dead pixel. I'm a perfectionist... If I spend $450 on a monitor, it should be perfect. So what is Dell's policy on dead pixels?

What in hell's name was DFI thinking when they designed their boxes?

I picked up a DFI NF4-SLI mobo yesterday. Let's just say I got some looks as I was walking out of Fry's... Can you use dual channel memory in a board that doesn't support dual channel?

Can I expect an Opteron 165 price drop any time soon?

Can I expect an Opteron 165 price drop any time soon?

I'm intending to build a new desktop soon, and I'm trying to make it future proof (unlike my not-so-beloved AthlonXP 2100+ system). So I want to get a multicore CPU, and an Opteron 165 seems like the way to go. Can I expect any AMD price drops soon?

    nand ram

NAND is a form of flash memory, which is unrelated (to some extent) to RAM. It's much more comparable to the chips you find inside SD cards and such. Anyway, that out of the way, I believe Samsung or Fujitsu showed off a laptop during CeBIT that had a 32GB NAND hard drive. But NAND is very...

    DirectX10

Halo 2 probably doesn't require DX10. I see no reason why it would. The original Xbox version ran on a supped up GeForce3 card. Quite frankly, the only reason Halo 2 PC requries Vista is because Microsoft needs a reason for people to migrate to Vista, since all the good features have been cut out.

Should I bother waiting for AM2?

Ah! Yes, that's what I was forgetting. I was wondering for a bit there why AMD was going to AM2 instead of just staying with 939, and the 65nm switch is probably the answer. I seem to remember AMD saying that they'll start producing 65nm chips by Q3 2006... Does that sound about right? And also...

Should I bother waiting for AM2?

A while back, one of the transistors on my EpoX 8RDA+ motherboard blew, and it's left my already aging desktop unusable. So I've been using my laptop exclusively for the last month or two. (That said, it's not that bad, since it has a PM 1.5, a gig of RAM, and a Mobility Radeon 9700.) But still...

  37. S

Is parallel ATA the same between notebook HDDs and desktop HDDs?

Well, there are 4 pins that aren't used in the adapter, and they're a bit farther away from the rest of the pins on the HDD. Seems like I may be in luck, thanks!

Is parallel ATA the same between notebook HDDs and desktop HDDs?

A while back, I bought a cheapo USB 2.0 enclosure for a laptop ATA drive (I currently have a 30GB 2.5" in there). About a month ago, my desktop's motherboard blew, so I've been primarily using my laptop. Now, I've sorta been running out of space on both my laptop HDD and my enclosure HDD, so...
