Which OS to install?

Honestly, I think Win2000 or XP would work just fine on that system. I am running XP on an old Dell laptop right now (Pentium III, 192MB RAM) and it's working quite well. Once I up the memory to 512MB it should be just fine. Streaming video on Youtube works fine, though multitasking is...

iTunes and AIM - newer versions make my computer eat itself

iTunes Library Reader?

itunes will export a listing of songs containing all the library information in either .txt or .xml format. I don't know how, but I would think that there must be some way to parse the .xml file and get the information needed.

The file I'm trying to load is "Autosave_game_airdefense1.save" located in "C:\Program Files\id Software\Quake 4\savegames" I haven't patched the game at all.

I tried loading through the console to no avail. It looks like it starts to load everything and then just quits. It says something about 'can't open log file' so I have to wonder if there was some other set of files that I should've copied over.

Nvidia Forceware Network Access Manager

I would like to uninstall the Nvidia NAM, but when I choose to do so in Add/Remove Programs, nothing happens. I've disabled all services associated with it, and my commit charge dropped by over 1gb. Any thoughts?

Recommendations for wife's computer

Trouble getting heatsink on.

Should Quake 4 "lurch" on this system?

I recently subscribed to UsenetMonster (5gb/mo. @ $2.95) and have been using Newsbin Pro 4.32. It's great. I tried the newer version 5, but I didn't like it as much. I've also tried Grabit but wasn't a fan of that either.

What do you guys think of Music Match Jukebox 10?

I've never liked MusicMatch. Now I use iTunes, but even way back in the day I used winamp rather than MusicMatch. That said, my roommate uses the program all the time and loves it. It might be worth checking out, maybe it has gotten alot better. The program just never sat well with me.

Installing CPU

lift the metal rod to vertical, place the chip in the socket (being sure to line it up correctly), put just enough pressure to hold the chip down as you bring the metal rod back down and snap it into place. Don't force down on the chip, let the rod do the work.

School budget system

Definitely go with the 1gb RAM. My old system only had 512mb and it almost wasn't enough for general school stuff combined with music and movies. Might want to look at this power supply by Fortron. You can probably find something cheaper, though.

Bah newegg.

Newegg is usually the fastest in terms of processing the order and getting it out the door, for me anyways. Just about every time I order from them it hits step 3 within hours and is shipped out the next day. Luckily UPS manages to get stuff to me within 3 days or less. I've got parts coming...

If you're looking for a cheap case, you might want to check this one out AMS CF-2229BK It's well made an not sup3r l33t r0x0r like so many cheap cases are. Just need to pick up a cheap power supply.
