system is not OC'd and just running on stock heatsink/fan, under XP pro. i occasionally play crysis and cod4. i guess i can live with some pausing here and there since i don't game tooooo much but for watching 1080 content, it's slightly annoying to see pauses. through HD stuff on hulu, it'll...
i have a ~1yr old system that seems to be lagging a little when i'm running it on a recently purchased westinghouse 37" lvm37se, which i set to 1920x1080. normal web browsing is fine but it seems to stutter on 1080 video content, and playing games on it doesn't seem to be quite smooth at all...
so i just got this delivered yesterday from fedex and it looks quite good using a single link dvi from my pc. my 7900gt seems to be choking on it for playing games at 1920x1080 though, which is a shame. but the ps3 looks amazing on it.
the bad news is, i did find 1 dead pixel from what i...
i bit. awesome deal i couldn't resist...
so what's the best way to connect this monitor from an older evga 7900gt card? dvi to dvi or dvi to hdmi? does it matter if it's through a single link or dual link dvi cable?
can't wait to set this thing up!
it was a dead psu. replacement works fine and computer is up and running again. very disappointed that the original psu died in under 6 mths. i thought seasonics were reliable....but i guess there's always a dud once in a while.
anyways, thanks everyone!
can you elaborate? i'm just wondering what would cause the fan to spin for one second and then stop, other than faulty ps. are some ps designed to do that if there is no load?
so i did the paper clip thing to the green/black wires of the 24pin connector and plugged the p/s to wall jack only with no other connections .......lo and behold, fan starts for a second then stops immediately.
guess it really is a dead power supply. can't believe this seasonic died in 6...
taking it somewhere doesn't seem cost efficient, since i can probably buy a new mobo and power supply for the cost of people to just diagnose it for 2 hrs. i might see what i can do to borrow a P/S from a friend to test.
maybe i'm biased but i'm guessing the power supply is ok (it's a...
thanks for the replies.
i may try shorting the power supply directly to see if the fan kicks in. but if it does, does that mean the ps is likely to be ok?
i may try resetting the CMOS too and see if that would help it...
so after 6 mths of my new build working fine, i started to notice more occasional BSOD happening (i somewhat ignored them since i've been playing bf2142 and just attributed part of it to that).
last night, computer just shut down after about 10min of powerup. wasn't doing anything...
thanks mem for the suggestion. i looked at the IRQs from the BIOS and then within windows and found myself thoroughly perplexed but i just figured i'd move the soundcard to another PCI slot.....no USB mouse freezes as of yet (knock on wood!). so far so good!
i'm on winxp pro. bios defaults as usb mouse support disabled but i've tried both already to no avail. tried shadow and base memory settings as well.
i plugged the logitech mouse through the PS2 port and it seems to work without freezing but it doesn't seem to respond well to quick mouse...
northbridge fan is going fine. i tried plugging it into a hub and it freezes up much quicker than if plugged directly in the back. also, when it freezes, the optical on the mouse still stays on but nothing works.....no movement, no left right buttons, nothing. any ideas/suggestions?
thanks for the reply. i flashed the bios in dos to the april release but that didn't fix it. the mouse shoud be ok since it works fine on an older computer and i never had it do this before. confused as to what the problem actually is but it does seem to be computer specific.
i've been having problems with my usb mouse logitech mx518 freezing up during gaming and now i suspect it's board related since everybody has talked about usb issues with this board.
it would start off ok and then as movements start to increase, the speed of the mouse changes drastically...
my replacement mobo worked like a charm and everything looks good. now that i look at the working board, i remember the previous DOA one had a bent resistor probably from the shipping. anyways, i'm guessing it was damaged in shipping so i'll forgive epox for this one!
gotta love it when the...
just sent it back for RMA. seriously praying that the replacement will be fine as the RMA set me back $14 bux to ship (and i am cheap).
ya bwanaaa, i must've reseated everything a gazillion times hoping that maybe one time it'll miraculously work. ram, vid card, and...
thanks for the reply guys.
i just now tried a different stick of ram that i know works. same issue. patriot ram gets mixed reviews but i can't imagine both sticks i got are bad.
everything seems to point to the mobo. only other thing i can think of is the psu, although if all the fans...
doesn't it usually cycle through before getting to FF? i've been reading that people say it's either means it's fully functional or fatal failure. the manual just says FF means boot attempt. mine starts off immediately with FF at powerup and stays there, even if i don't put any memory on...
it's 4am and i can't get this new build to POST....help?!?
on powerup, it starts up with post code FF. cpu and dimm LEDs on mobo light up but chipset one turns on and then immediately goes off. anybody seen this before? should i assume the board is DOA?
i have the mobo set up outside of...
i'm in the same boat as you techfuzz. i was hoping the 939s would drop today on am2 release but was probably too optimistic. i hope it doesn't take 2-3 mths before we see the price drop on the x2, since it seems like the prices haven't changed much for a while now.
but if u were going to...
ahh that's good news. i hope they start making them available soon. was just about to get a x2 3800 but maybe i can wait a week or two for this and AM2 to start driving prices down on their standard x2. thanks for the heads up!
went to local cc to find the ad/catalog but no luck. they only have the newest ad that came out this sunday......
if someone finds those ads, take 20 of em and PM all of us some love :P
wow cheapest i've seen on these. great deal OP!
does anybody know compatibility of these on the epox ep9npa+ ultra board cause i'm all over this if there isn't.
edit: somebody beat you to it already though! :P

i think he's saying get SLI so you can add another card later as an upgrade. i'm quite a n00b at all this but i've also been researching a new build so it's kinda funny cause i'm facing similar questions but here's the impression i get (please remember these are opinions only and what i've...
i have the SR80s which are one step up for the 60s sonically but look the same.
i agree they are not that comfortable when using for long periods of time....the foam part doesnt seem to stick out far enough so the speaker part of the headset presses against my ears.
sound wise, they are...
i'm guessing airflow MAY be better in the sx830 than the sonata II since it is a larger case so it's less cramped. i have two 90mm antec fans in the rear that came with the case (there are two optional fan mounts in the front as well but never needed to put them on). they are a tad noisy so i...
i give up on trying to decide so maybe you guys can decide for me...
looking to build soon (x2 3800, 7800gt, etc) and can't decide if i should keep my antec sx830 and upgrade to a 450w fortron PS (~50 bux)
http://www.antec.com/us/support_productInfo_details.php?ProdID=80830
or just get...
good deal....although how does the rebate work if it's OOS? like if u purchase before the deadline Jan10, and they don't ship til much later past 14 days of purchase, then are u screwed?
and anybody know if this kit would work with the EPOX 9NPA+ Ultra? corsairs mem configurator only shows...
lol thanks for the replies.
ya i've read a lot of bad things about this drive recently but it's so funny cause back when i bought it, which i think was at least 5 yrs ago, it was completely opposite...everybody had so many good things to say about it. guess the drives just needed some time...
wanted to get more opinions on this.......but should i toss my deskstar 75gxp for a newer generation drive? will i really see a significant performance difference from a larger cache buffer but same 7200rpm? seems like a 8.5ms seek time on my 75gxp is comparable to what is out there now. (i...
ya that 7800gt is still there i think with MIR. hopefully they won't run out!
i think i may go with a sli motherboard, in case i decide to upgrade.
thanks for your help. can't wait to start putting this thing together, as my 900mhz athlon is near it's end, at least for gaming.
thanks for the input.
trying to learn more about all of this since i've been out of the loop for a while and all these suggestions and posts on the forums here are really helpful.
thanks for the suggestions (and links). very helpful. here's what i'm thinking...
vid card: 6800gs or 7800gt...this one will be a tough call. 6800 being around $200, is the extra $80 on a 7800gt worthwhile?
soundcard: do i need one since i mainly play games off of headphones or just...
