I have 2 x 8 GB sticks in my T420. To get at one of the slots you have to remove the keyboard.

Looking at ASUS H97M-Plus and Gigabyte GA-H97M D3H. Both have almost identical features. Have built systems using ASUS before but never Gigabyte. $20 difference in price not a deal breaker. Thoughts?

Interesting, when the external DVD is attached, after re-boot or restart, the system finds both the external drive and the one in the modular bay. Left a disk in modular drive (non-bootable) and restarted system. DVD drive not present. Hmm?

Haven't looked at the event viewer. Not sure what I would be looking for. Any ideas? I do have an external USB DVD drive. I'll see what happens when I attach that and reboot.

John, tried running the firmware update and it told me that my drive had the latest firmware already. Thanks for the suggestion.

Update on DVD issue. After getting the device recognized, upon rebooting the dvd was gone again. Reloaded OS (Win7 Pro 64) along with all drivers suggested by Dell tech, nothing. Left the system on and it went into hibernation. Upon waking system the dvd was seen by system in Computer and...

This is a laptop, so no cables involved. Spent two hours with Dell tech and ultimately the registry was hosed. Had to reenter the dvd in it. The interesting thing was I could boot from the dvd but, Win7 couldn't even see it after a bit. Any was it's fixed now and I'll be taking a check...

The dvd shows up in device manager on Latitude E6410 but when the properties are checked on the General tab the message "No drivers are installed for this device" in the status. Tried downloading drivers but, after unzipping I get a message that this is the wrong version. The drive is not...

I'm planning on cloning my HDD in a Dell Latitude E6410 to an SSD. I know I should set the BIOS to AHCI and that prior to that the registry needs to be changed. Question is, is it advisable to do this prior to cloning or after the SSD is cloned and installed?

Thinking of replacing the win7 version that came with my T420 with an OEM version. Reason is all the Lenovo BS that came loaded. Seems like a PITA to try to pick trough everything and delete the stuff. Any unforeseen issues that need to be considered?

What is the best sound dampening/silent case?

Elixer, thank you for the reply. Went ahead and partitioned the HD leaving half unformatted. As for the Samsung util, I did originally install it but, subsequently had to reinstall Win7 and didn't reload after I saw what it was all about.

How's the TR Spirit 120 compare with the Hyper 212+ sizewise? Description of TR says 120 is made specifically for micro atx and mini tower but it should work for a full atx mobo in a mid-tower case i'm assuming. Looking for not heavy & huge for sure.
