Quad Core....Go for Penryn or wait for Nehalem?

i say wait. 10-20% over c2d isnt groundbreaking at all. my next upgrade wont be till next gen platform or till quad becomes mainstream.

XP-90 vs Artic Cooler Freezer 7 Pro for e4300 Overclock

Get the artic cooler 775, my temps dropped by 10c in tat. goto neutronexpress for the lowest price. 22 shipped for me. i had an xp90 on my s939. served me well for 1yr. I would go with artic better though.

Opteron 165 or 175

i went from amd 3000+ @ 2.7ghz to opteron 165@ 2.5 stock volts. i would say for games i'll keep the 3000+. But the whats the diff in price between a 165 and 175 now? You might want to consider the difference/performance. Dual core isnt really much faster than single core in games. for photoshop...

Ok guys I have $200 for a board and proc, what to get?

Get the fry's special $149 e4300 and ecs mobo. Thats if you have a local fry's. Best bang for buck 50bucks get yourself a artic cooler 775. Then upgrade the mobo if you need to later.

E4300 Overclocks?

yes faster fsb=faster overall scores. I generally dont notice a diff going from 3.2-3.5

3.2GHZ or 3.35GHZ...c2d e6400

IMO..3.4 is not much diff from 3.5 or 3.6 but its a big jump to 3.7 as i saw in some review the benchmarks from going from 3.5 to 3.7. I would just keep it at the most stable speed. im running 1.33volts now and so far its rock solid, i dont do any orthos or folding. I run games and programs...

e6600 build! need info w/c motherboard to buy

asus p5n-E nvidia 650i should do you well with that processor. 412fsb limit but you wouldnt need to go that high with the e6600. Or budget performance, go with biostar tforce 965 or gigabyte s3.or hold off till the new s3's and ds3's come out with all high quality caps for the same price. you...

Are Micron D9's absolutely necessary?

Rate this budget build

newegg rma is fast and great. I've rma'd a bunch of stuff before. Thats why the only reason i'll go with newegg for their fast service, prices are mediocre. You should spend a little bit more and get pc6400

I would say get an artic cooler drops your temps by about 10c. Mines is running 1.31v @ 3.45 (490x266) Normal temps with my stock hsf is around 59 in TAT and with load goes to 69c. Thats way too hot for me. Artic cooling is running for 16.99 at neutron. Thats where i bought it. great deal!!

Which memory to use with my E6300?

I suggest you spend a little more or get corsair value if want cheapo stuff but still good. No difference if you don't overclock. Buy the cheapest pc5300 or 4200. but if your getting a asus board why not spend a little bit more to get better memory and overclock it a little bit to gain more...

I'm running it at 3.4 and checking to see how stable it is..if its stable i'll keep it at 3.4 if not lower it to 3.2 i can run 1.2v @ 2.8ghz.runs super cool.

Single core @ 2.9ghz vs. dual core at 2.4ghz - Which is faster?

"you're a golden member.. you should have read enough to know" lol... to answer your question. single 2.9 is faster than dual 2.4 in single threaded apps and games. only if you like to run bench marks all day u'll be happy with 2.4 ghz dual core.

opteron 165 at 2567 @1.45volt. Low end OC?

Well it all depends on your stepping. I got a similar setup to you. Most people can do 2.6 stock 2.7-2.8 needs some voltage adjustments. but 2.8 is max for my chip. im back down to 1.36volts@ 2.6 cpu temps are 25c idle 36@load on xp-90 untill i get a new chipset cooler because the cpu isnt...

i got a ccbwe 0551upmw too...FREAKING AWESOME CHIP..2.6 stock volts. Im happy. Memory limiting me I bet it can go 2.7-2.8 Tried dividers no luck. Haven't even bump voltage past 1.35 with dividers. I dont feel like tweaking it further because i know my memory maxes out at 288fsb. Lets hope...

Opteron 144 vs 64 3700+

I think if you want to overclock get the opteron 144, but if you plan on not overclocking get the 3700+. Advantages of opteron is high overclockability. 3700+ runs at 2.2 i believe wont over as high but probably runs alot cooler than the opteron. But IMHO i think the your better off with a...

well im not the only one with those low 3dmark scores my friend has same scores as i do, we are using 1.20 version of 3dmark. what version are you guys using?I need to know settings. Because my gtx is getting some low scores i dont know why?

I dont know how you got 7393 3dmarks on your 7800gt? I get 7300 with my 7800gtx. and my 7800gt only gets 6400k 470/1130. so tell what settings your using because i would like to get those marks.

Opteron stepping question

I got this stepping Cpu could do 2.9ghz but mine wasn't stable. i run it at 2.6 now 1.4v i dont notice any difference between 2.6-2.8 except in benchmarks, if you got good memory then you could probably get tighter timings and it'll feel alot faster. But my i havent lowered my multiplier to 9x...

BFG 7800GTX SHIMMERS!!

Ok...vertical sync seems to solve the shimmering problem, but it takes a huge performance hit. normally i would get 7200 in 3dmark now 6400. Is it worth it?

BFG 7800GTX SHIMMERS!!
