XP or Vista with this upgrade?

Hi all, looking to upgrade my video encoding and gaming machine. Coming from a P4 2.8C. :Q I went over the System Builders 2.0 thread and here are the parts I'm looking at: I was hoping to stick with Windows XP but I hear that Vista Ultimate 64 will actually make better use of my hardware...

Will a 400w PSU power this system?

The PSU in my current system is a 400w Fortron w/120mm fan. It powers my oc'ed p2.8c / 6800GT / 2GB DDR400 just fine. I am upgrading to this: AMD 3800+ X2 Abit KN9 Ultra Mobo 1GB DDR2-800 eVGA 7900GT You think the Fortron PSU is up to the task or should I spring for something bigger?

Building an HTPC which video cardor whatever for the best TV out.

Doing A/B comparisons from my PS2 paused on a very colorful screen I noticed a tad bit better color definition on component on my 32" ntsc wega. Enough reason for me to pay a little extra for the cables. ATi's latest All-In-wonder cards have component out but for my applications (PVR'ing...

Giant IV!!!!

I wouldn't mount that fan directly ON the card, it will just create more turbulence, and more noise. Like someone else suggested get a Zalman bracket and hang it off that, putting some breathing room for the air to escape once it has hit the card. How fast can you OC your 9800? My 9800np is @...

9800np problems with my system

took ur advice but my mobo (Asus P4PE) only lets me select AGP 1x or 4x. Brought it down to 1x and no crashes in Medal Of Honor. Still have to see how much it affected performance in Aquamark. thanks! Also heard Catalyst v4.3 drivers are very stable, what I'm using now as well.

9800np problems with my system

system isn't that old (p4 2.4b @ 2.7) and omega turns fast writes off by default. I get reboots no matter which drivers I use, from ATi's to Dell's. It's a great card when it works. I guess there's some conflict in my system so I'll just stick with nVidia for the time being.

2d performance - Matrox 550 vs todays cards

I'll add this.. My old Matrox Marvel 400 gave the best 2D output I've ever seen. Very stable cards with great build quality, they should kidnap some of the 3d engineers at nvidia or ati.

9800np problems with my system

Everytime I try to install a new driver this happens: Screenshot Everything is Not Available. Scrolling down webpages is extremely slow and choppy, like how it is when no driver is installed at all. Plus no games work. Here are the drivers I tried: 1) Current ATi v4.5 2) Previous ATi v4.4...

Quiet keyboard

Just for archival's sake.. the quietest keyboards I've used are from Zippy. Look at their slim line series which uses the same material in laptop keyboards which are quiet to begin with. I've been using the WK-801 for half a year now and just purchased a WK-711, both pretty much silent...

No it's not an HDTV> 480p = EDTV which is Enhanced Definition. High Definition is 720p and above. If you consider 640x480 high resolution take the advice from above and go to AVS or hometheaterforum.com

good deal on 40" plasma hdtv

This is NOT an HDTV. It's native resolution is 640x480. Although it says you can input a 1024x768 XGA signal into it all it will do it downconvert it to it's native resolution, 640x480. It even says 4:3 NTSC in the description.

Hot freebie! Get BMW Films "The Hire" Season 2 on DVD free if BMW owner

I bet these will be free to all when it comes out in Spring. For the first season all you had to do was call BMW or go to a dealer and ask for the promotional DVD. For my DVD I just called and they sent it free of charge, and I don't own a BMW.

FedEx smokes UPS

One thing I've heard is that UPS handles insurance claims MUCH better and professional than FedEx, that might have changed though. As for package handling we all know that just depends on the driver. My local UPS guy is very nice and carfeful compared the the FedEx guy who rushes everything...

A couple years ago I was bummed to find this pad couldn't be daisy-chained in MAME (could only use one). It was on the official MAME faq too but now I can't find this issue. Can anyone confirm daisy-chaining this Sidewinder works in the latest version of MAME?

I'm guessing it has a low pixel CCD as the small # of reviews I read are complaining of the poor picture quality. It's still a nice price as other places want $450 for it but I suggest you forget the MIR and save up for a nice Panasonic, JVC, or Sony.

Nice looking silver/black keyboard, $10

Zippy keyboards, they are average - above average, not junk imo. Focus a lot on looks but back it up with nice features, keypresses are sometimes hard to feel and won't register on my mini Zippy though. I doubt this is an issue with a regular size keyboard but something to keep in mind...

Check out quietpc.com for some ultra-quiet PSU's. I have the 400 watt model with dual fans and the HSF on my graphics card is louder than the PSU. :)

Price Mistake?

If you went to that site run Adaware, I found a whole bunch of cookie whores & this regkey called Alexa I haven't seen before. I know I'm just being cautious but check to see if you have the same. Oh and if the Gator pop-up window shows, don't install it.
