Replaced Router, faster speed?

did none of you actually look at the old router? it's based off a Broadcom BCM3302 @ 240MHz, 16MiB ram b/g wireless... it's stone age compared to his upgrade. 35Mbps is likely around it's maximum routing performance.

more stuff to render = less spare computing power for benchmark. I run 3 monitors and in general I have to have lower settings than someone with a single monitor could get away with

Psu with really long cables?

what you want doesn't exist. generally the longest stock psu cabling you will find will top out at just short of 1m for the last SATA connector in a chain. your only choice is to use extensions. instead of moving the pc out of your case, wouldn't it be simpler to move the pc itself?

the manufacturer only guarantees 500W continuous with no guarantees on peak performance. as long as you don't trip (assuming correctly functional) OCP, you should be fine but it's definitely not recommended. from what I've seen, almost all "premium" (think seasonic, superflower, actual server...

you should list out the rest of your computer. you'd need to be running like three+ video cards to really need 1kW+ supplies. a power supply will only consume as much energy as the computer it's connected to will draw minus conversion losses.

those are (illegal) chinese clones. most of the price for the actual saleae models goes to software development (this is the developers' full time job). the actual hardware costs peanuts in comparison. they have new faster "pro" models out but they're entering second-hand old HP LA price-range.

you can't run freenas on non-x86 hardware.. since you didn't specify if cost was a factor... if it was me and I had to fit in the itx formfactor, I'd go with the cheapest i3 and a B85 board. else, probably celeron 1037U hardware.

And I thought heatspreaders on DDR2 DIMMs were for show...

uh, those are fbdimms. by definition they produce mucho heat. they only have much sinking due to airflow issues I imagine. anyways, with those sinks they cannot be used in typical boards (unsurprising, as it is apple we're talking about).

never going to happen. nobody will spin a design that markets to a tiny market like us. 4 slots in 13" is physically (and easily) possible with the removal of the optical drive, but most people (bleh) would rather have ridiculously thin than have a functionally optimal laptop.

120 mm fans suggestions for Norco 4224 case.

I'm skeptical the slower rotating GTs can suck a decent amount of air through the 4224's front. those drive bays aren't exactly spacey. 38mm fans may be a crappy idea depending on what your build is. if your board is EATX and you manage to squeeze 38mm fans into there without some ridiculous...

actually, there's usually no watercooling - normally fanless. The case is typically a giant aluminum heatsink and all major heat producing components sinked to it. laziness usually means IP6x (probably 67).

Which ZFS layout would you use for the following, and why?

How long do you keep your laptop?

My oldest currently used laptop is a Vostro 1500, *BUT* my primary laptop is a Lenovo X220. I tend to repurpose them or like the Inspiron 9300 I had before that vostro, give to my parents.
