    Which OS for dual cores?

    I would recommend xp myself, since it's got a nice interface (I see that as important) and user friendlier. But my friend has w2003 and he claims that gaming is prodigiously smoother in that os than xp. So, your choice =)

    Thanks for the reply. Yeah I have the newest BIOS already. And I haven't been messing around with msconfig at all. My problem doesn't seem to be related to any programs or anything, because it happens sometimes when I play games for hours or just surfing the web for 15 min. Yeah it happens...

    I have a pretty newly built PC that occasionally would not power down. Windows would finish all its logging off, saving, and shut down stuff, the system would still remain on when the monitor turns off. This happens once every 5 times I use the computer... And I have not found any software...

    Well, you don't necessarily have to reformat the whole hdd. But you do have to combine at least 2 partitions together into a bigger sector (at least so i think). You can easily do that using the windows xp cd.

    I don't know about the new dual rails, but i have an "old" 500w ultra x-connect and it works well enough for my x2 system. No problems whatsoever.

    Logisys is good? I was planning to get that but stayed away because the ratings in newegg were pretty low for this product. And I heard from several people that Logisys lights break quickly. Should I still go for Logisys?

    thanks for your recommendation. The light looks nice, but the 4 inche tubes are 15 bucks + 6 bucks shipping + tax is quite over what i intend to spend. Perhaps there is something cheaper?

    wow thanks for all your info BrownTown. If, for example, a CPU has 512 kb L2 cache vs 1 mb L2 cache with the same miss rates and etc. (assume everything's the same except the 512kb vs 1mb), how much would the gain be in terms of performance?

    With the new PD that has 2 x 2 mb L2 cache, i am starting to wonder... Is L2 cache significant in terms of performance gain? And how does that compare to the x2's?

    The Li Lians might look cheap, but they are high-quality cases. Aluminum cases have better cooling, but higher noise as well. i have the Antec superlanboy, around $70; it's a nice aluminum case with a side window. No psu included however. But u could get a nice one for around 40 bucks

    Oh btw, I used cpuz 1.31 to check it. And the program shows that i have 200mhz ram too. Does cpuz show 200mhz instead of 400mhz too or is my ram faulty?

    Ah so the problem is at the HDD power cable. Well i would guess that the system would sometimes fail to power down with an error like this.

    Interesting... from the benchmarks i have seen (free tom's hardware or something... forgot), the old 930D actually comes pretty close to the x2 3800+ in many applications except gaming. AMD is rumored to be going into 65um processors soon. Does anybody know around when a new Athlon processor...

    Have you gotten into the "sounds and audio devices properties" (under control panel), and "advanced," and see if you have chosen 5 speakers? If you have already done that and it still doesn't work, perhaps 2.1 doesn't support 5 speakers?

    Anyways, I think i have solved the problem myself by removing the 20-24 adapter. And my graphics card still has enough power!!! (x700pro). I am not sure if the problem is solved yet, i need to run it longer to make sure. =)

    I had the same problem here. Do you have a 20 pin PSU connected to a 24 pin mobo via a 20-24pin adapter? That's what I had and it caused incompleted shut downs (system remains on, but monitor turns off). I removed the adapter and it seems to work now, but not too sure since i had just done...

    I have an Ultra 500W PSU. It runs well and quiet and the price isn't as high as Antec or other major brands. And it also has these power cables that u plug in when you want to use that connector, and leave it out if u don't. It makes the case much more organized.

    wow. my x2 setup is only 350W. (I have a full system, w/ x700pro graphics and 2 DVD drives and all that) I don't know why at least 480W is needed for x2. and i didn't know x2 consumes even more energy than the new PD.
