Yeah, and the case I have picked out has good cable management...but then again the premium for modular isn't that great at all so it's good advice to give. It could save me hassle routing.
I'm trying to dip my toe in the PC gaming waters after a long absence. Not a pro gamer or anything like that. I was joking about the Xbox. I could never abide one of those paddle style controllers. And what's the benefit of a modular PSU aside from hot having cables that I could easily route...
Thanks Thinker. Well I'm not a competitive gamer, and Skyrim and Doom are the only games I'm interested in at the moment. Perhaps cheaping out on something I know can run those well, and just buy a new card whenever Elder Scrolls 6 comes out.
I had initially selected a modular PSU but...
Nice thanks. I don't like upgrading generally anything in less than 5 year increments. I'm coming from an Athlon X4 Propus quad core and 660, and the only reason I'm wanting to upgrade now is b/c my wife took that box when she left. So now I *have* to replace it heh.
For less money, I could actually run video off the 6700K and just game on an Xbox heh. But that would mean sacrifices in performance, graphics, and having to use a stupid controller.
By the way you guys are talking, even a GTX-1080 wouldn't even last long. My last gaming card was a GTX-660 (non-Ti) and I thought it was the bee's knees hah.
Right now I just want something to rock out Doom and Skyrim Remastered, while keeping an eye towards future games I may want to be be...
Wow okay, so my logic is surprisingly sound. That doesn't happen often haha. Definitely go with the GTX-1070 then and stop trying to find reasons to cheap out with an RX 480. Thanks!
Hey all,
I'm getting ready to build a new PC for gaming. I haven't gamed in years, and could use some advice.
I'm interested in top performance 1080p. I'd rather have blowout 100+ frame rates in 1080p than struggle and have to upgrade in a year or two messing with 1440p.
I had a 1070/Gsync...
I love my K480, but it's not very mobile. It's heavy and loud. I actually like that, but I bought it to keep near the TV so I can connect it to my set top box, phone and tablet while I couch potato.
If you want to be mobile I'd look at something else.
Replaced DFX Player for music with Phonograph, it's actually pretty decent.
Also, loving XiiaLive for streaming internet and local radio stations. It's far from perfect, but at least I can get my SomaFM fix without jumping through too many hoops. TuneIn's UI was a disaster and I think Xiia...
I was doing a bit more research and it seems, at 1440p, a GTX-1070, hell, even a 1080 isn't going to give those super high 100+ framerates on the modern games with maxed out settings. I'd kind of rather just get a high refresh, low input lag 1080p TN screen and not even worry about gsync. I'd...
Wow, thanks Russian. If read time isn't improved with that Samsung 950 Pro then I can DEFINITELY go cheaper. Back to the SP550 for 200 savings.
I used to be a big FPS gamer way way back during the Quake 2 days....haven't gamed much since then at all, aside from Elder Scrolls games here and...
This one costs $315 for 512 gigs....I'm assuming it's the faster one. Samsung 950 Pro M.2
Someone above said it's a port to the 64bit Fallout 4 engine. Honestly I don't care what they did with it, so long as it looks nice, which it does.
Nice thanks! Your initial post had me concerned LOL
Really? I thought that M.2 would blow a normal SSD out of the water? If that's not the case, I'll stick with the ADATA SP550 480 or 512 whatever.
Thanks, I'm interested to see what your experience is like.
Yeah. I never got into mods, or even got any DLC back when I last payed Skyrim several years ago. To me the remaster would be worth it wanting to get back into it. :)
Thanks so much for the help everyone. I can't afford any sort of PC right now, but am saving up and I can save a little longer if the i7/1070 route is the way to go, which it looks like it is. I sit a bit too close to the screen for 27" I'd think as well.
I was just getting a little anxious...
Really? I was thinking if I went up from 24" to 27" that would make the 1080p not look as good, making me spend much more money to go the 1440p route with the rest of my system buid.
Wow, a lot to think about thanks. I have (had, before the wife made off with the PC entirely) a SATA Samsung 840 120GB SSD. So I'm not new to SSDs :)
I figured that new Samsung M.2 would be loads better....looks like I was wrong. So, Skyrim build then...
i7-6700K + closed loop
RX 480 4gig...
Great, I'll consider all of that thanks. :)
I definitely want to keep this rig as long as possible. I'm coming from an Athlon X4 Propus and GTX-660 heh!
Hmm I know Skyrim is CPU intensive, but do you really think the i5 would bottleneck? If I ever do any video editing or anything like that, it would be very light and infrequently, so I have a hard time justifying paying extra for the i7, no matter how cool it would be to have one with a closed...
Hey all,
I've been putting together a build on PC Part Picker for a while now, saving up.
I want something that will run Skyrim Remastered really well (the only game I'm really interested in at this point).
My original build list was a i7-6700K and 1070, but I decided that I don't want to...
Good point on support and forums. I hadn't considered that. Even if Tasker is a bit more in depth and harder to set up, lots of forum support should easily make up for that.
I have heard Tasker is the best, but most complicated, really requiring you to dig into low level settings.
I have an LG 750 Bluetooth headset that has a bug in the firmware that disables the microphone when there is a WiFi connection. So I downloaded Llama and set it to disable WiFi while...
I know you can't put Kodi on XBO, which is stupid but w/e. Is there still some app built in or that I could grab to give me the same functionality as Kodi? I actually kind of want an XBO just to play Skyrim remastered but mainly to stream videos from my desktop PC via LAN.
I'm using the trial version of Solid File Manager now, but if there is an option to browse network locations, it's not in the free version and I'm hesitant to purchase it without knowing for sure the pay version will include the feature. I'll check out FX too, thanks.
I put up with ES's bloat...
I eventually chose Axon due to the higher res and sound. If the camera was that important to me though I might still be undecided between the two, or go ahead and get the OP3 lol
For an artist I'd def go with the Surface Pro. If you can't afford a 4, even a 3 would be better than a tablet. Maybe someone can correct me if I"m wrong, but the Surface stylus is hands down THE best.
Wow, this actually looks pretty damn decent. A 7 or 8" tablet with nice specs is hard to find. Something to consider!
I got my old first gen N7 running stock KitKat, which is def better than 5.0 or any of the ROMs I've tried on it. But it's still a bit slow for my liking, especially now that...
