My campus San Diego State, or at least the department I work for, uses Netware for networking together thousands of faculty computers. I think it is most commonly used for large LAN's so the most use probably is for large companies, colleges and things like that. I wouldn't use it for my...
I was seeing one more DNS server than he was, even though we both didnt have any entered in. I changed my setting so I'd only see the two that he does, but it didnt help. The only places we differ now are the default gateway, subnet mask and ip address. My ip address isnt something I can...
For some reason with my NIC I can only have a node type of peer-peer. So I can only see computers that are on the campus network, but cant connect to any internet sites. I'm using the same jack with my roomies computer and it is fine. I'm just wondering if there is a way to change the node...
For one the 5500 is probably a good card for you because you don't want a GF2, use Win2K and play mainly glide games. (UT and Rune). Now if you want to take a risk the Raedon DDR is a faster card in Win98 and will be a faster card in Win2K if ATI can get their a$$ is gear and write better...
Try updating all your drivers/bios since this may solve some of your problems. Also what is your real world performance (i.e. fps in games) since you may get poor 3dmark scores, but if your game performance is top notch and where it should be then you dont really have a problem.
My microsoft sidewinder game pad was one of my best deals ever. I got paid about $7 S&H and tax included to be the proud owner of one. I forget the details, but it was about $22 from buy.com plus $20 from buy.com plus a $10 rebate from microsoft it came to about $3.00 before the rebate so...
Elsa has admitted that their cards are actually made by Vision Tek. Visiontek is I believe is mainly an OEM distributor which is why their cards are so cheap, they are all OEM. It uses the reference design and performs on par with any other GF2 32MB. It doesn't have a TV-out either, but if...
go into control panel--> display--> advanced--> adapter--> change
You should have the reference drivers downloaded from nvidia. You should uninstall all video drivers at this point. Now what you do is when you change your adapter use the have disk option. With have disk you can manually...
Also if you are on a LAN disable file sharing, especially larger ones like at a college. For some reason in the dorms when someone tries to view you on the network it just slows down the computer to extremely slow speeds. I used to have file sharing on and had this happen, turned it off it...
thx for the help, since that makes complete sense, since this usually happens after a bad shut down, which would explain the temp files not getting deleted.
glad you could get your computer fixed, and remember to avoid this in the future. Do not open strange email attachments, and since you got this virus because AOL automatically ran it/unzipped it you should disable that feature as well. I don't know how to do it since I don't use AOL, but just...
if it's a recent problem then RAM isn't the likely issue here. I still suggest you upgrade if you are going to be running Win2K anyways, just because 128MB is the lowest most people would recommend for Win2K. Do what priit says if you haven't, reinstall, if that doesn't work format then...
I think we all forgot that a majority of OEM motherboards actually have to have their jumpers set manually. If you get a slotket, which converts PPGA (your celeron) to FCPGA (new celerons) then you should be fine. The jumpers on the slotket are the ones you have to set, since your motherboards...
Well, you can change what program opens a file type when the file is double clicked. You probably have to tell windows to open .txt files with the notepad in c:\windows. try doing that first. I forget where you do this, and I'm on a restricted NT machine right now, so I can't exactly where to...
I dunno, same thing happens to me too and I have WinME. This obviously is more than just a single computer problem. I thought it was just me, but obviously WinME has some major issues.
BTW what is your system spec
Mine is:
Celeron 566@850
Asus TNT
128MB crucial RAM
Maxtor DiamondPlus40...
I've had this happen before actually. One word DEFRAG! for some reason this cured all of my problems. No clue why though. Oh yeah close all of those background programs, especially virus scan since scan software always seems to have problems.
LOL, I just read this thread and I must say that trying to fix computers over message boards is even harder than over the phone. Maybe you should read the dreaded user manual for your HD. I know it sounds terrible, but it really does help when building a system for the first time!
Hehe, I can't believe how many people I know who have been infected with this virus. First off if you have AOL, change your password after you get rid of the virus. All righty then, get ready for some dos action! Here is a link to mcafee that tells all about your virus and how to get rid of...
save yourself the money and buy the first version that came out. Not the GOTY or Platinum, because those just include free patches that you can download. It's like 70 megs, but most people have DSL, Cble, etc., or can just set up a download overnight on a modem.
You can get a geforce2 for around $160 now if you want to go that route. The Raedons are nice cards too, but are a little more expensive then the geforce2. The geforce2MX is a good budget card, and probably is the best price/performance right now. I wouldn't touch the Voodoo5 5500 unless you...
I will when it airs, since I live on the WC so SP doesn't air until about 10:00 here. I could probably find the episode on Scour if I want to right now, but I'm also at work. SP 0wnz j00!
No reviewer noticed this problem most likely because 3D games is where about 99 percent of the focus is on vid card performance. They concentrated so much on the all mighty FPS, that they just forgot to look at the 2D quality with any kind of scrutiny.
All right I currently have an Asus TNT TV in/out (stop laughing please), and I want to upgrade to a geforce2, but don't want to lose my tv-out capabilities. I was wondering I would like to have a tv-out seperate of my vid card, so I don't have to keep rebuying the extra tv-out on video cards...
try booting with only HD, video card, RAM and CPU and see if that works. Then add components one at a time to determine where the problem is. Also list all of your components, including modem, especially ones that run on ISA or are fairly old. Sometimes those kind of things have problems...
I believe in Rogue Spear all of your key binds are located in the registry instead of a .cfg file like in other games. You probably don't have any registry keys made for rogue spear, because you formatted your operating system HD, which wiped out the old registry containing the correct registry...
I have an Abit BX6 rev. 2 with a Celeron 566@850, 128MB of crucial PC100 RAM, and a Maxtor Diamondplus40 30 gig HD and running WindowsME. My question is that I'm having to defrag my HD an unusual amount of time. For some reason (about once a week) my computer just starts to have major...
Check to see if your cables are bad if you haven't already. Use ones that are known to be good. Also check to make sure that your mobo is okay if you haven't. Try putting the HD in a dif computer and see if that works. If all else fails you have a 1gig HD for a paperweight!
is there anyway to boot into dos with windowsME, or did M$ do something stupid and get rid of it. I mean sometimes you just need to go into DOS to fix something, or do other assorted things you can't do under windows.
