The 245WP is not a European only model, it's also available in North America -- NCIX, a Canadian retailer has it in stock, and several other online US vendors have it listed, although I don't believe any have received stock yet. There was another post on these boards about the LG monitors...

LG is not a TN panel -- it uses the same AU Optronics P-MVA panel that's found in the BenQ FP241W.

New LG L245WP-BN 24-inch wide is P-MVA, not S-IPS

Interesting news -- where did you get the info that the L245WP uses the same panel as the BenQ? I've heard from many places that this was using some type of *VA, but I hadn't seen a specific model mentioned.

True... the big deal they make about HDMI seems kind of gimmicky to me. On the other hand, having HDMI and DVI effectively gives you two DVI ports, since you can easily convert between the two. So at the very least you're getting an extra digital input that supports HDCP.

Several folks at hardforum have received replies from BenQ support saying that 1:1 pixel mapping will be added via a firmware update sometime in December. It's not clear whether this affects all inputs and all resolutions, but it seems at the very least that this should prevent 16:9 pictures...

Distortion with my X-FI

I wouldn't try messing with ACPI unless nothing else helps you. There's a huge thread about this problem on the creative message boards. If you're patient, you can look through it, several people have been able to fix their problems, though there doesn't seem to be a solution that works...

Help with selecting a new soundcard upgrade...

While the X-Fi extrememusic is more expensive, the sound quality IMO is noticably better than the previous generation cards, and the 3D positional sound with headphones is excellent, especially when you use decent equipment. Also, sound cards don't become obsolete in 6 months like video cards...

I'm pretty sure this is incorrect. The developers said that they procedurally generated content when they created the world -- the game doesn't randomly add vegitation on the user's end, this was only done during development. The vegetation is identical in each copy.

I see -- I was a little confused because AAC is not an Apple Codec and has nothing to do with the Apple lossless codec. I was wondering if there was some lossless variant of AAC that I hadn't heard about (which seemed unlikely, since AAC is designed to be lossy, but you never know :) ).

From the thread the OP referenced, there seem to be several different causes for the problems people are experiencing. Some people have the problems only in Battlefield 2, others only when they have some of the special features enabled (EAX, CMSS, etc), and others seem to have the problems...
