Thanks all! I got the games ( Tachyon, IW Edge of Chaos, and Starcraft) to work fine using compatibility mode XP sp2.

Win7 Pro and up has a XP mode so you can play the old games. Is this like a virtual software or a dual boot XP/ Win7?

Beep code problem

Tried that too, Asus manual said to load single stick in #3. Did that w/both sticks, did'nt help. Is it a ram problem? 5starsupport.com had the Pheonix code.

Beep code problem

I can't do that, video is out. Monitor says no digital signal. I found a another match for the beeping codes. 2 short is, First 64k ram chip/data failure, long beeps show which bits are bad. If this the case, what component ( mobo chip, ram, or harddrive?) is this coming from ?

Beep code problem

Recently my screen started freezing. No input worked. I had to shutdown and restart. It kept on freezing after a couple minutes after a few restarts and then would'nt boot at all no screen,audio . All I get is a beep tone...2short3 long. I searched for what that means and I can't find it even...

Can I upgrade my memory?

I have a HP Pavillion DV6449 US laptop( AMD Turion 64 X2 1.8 ghz cpu). I upgraded the OS to Win7 32 bit. Can I add 2 new sticks of 2x2gb of DDR2, since WIN 7 supports it? I asked HP about this and got no response. I asked Corsair and their answer was hazy.

HD 6870 w/older monitor

I guess it is if you're playing against others. Back to the point, I simply have 2- 20" full screen @ 1300x1050. They look fine to me and I do play a lot of older games. I'm now considering a AMD A10 Trinity apu that has a very good video chip. Later, add a better vid card.

Cooling the backside of a vid card

I meant this post to ask a simple question. Will putting a small fan(which most of us have laying around) on the backside of a vid card help cool it? OC'ing or not. During intensive gameplay, i've touched the backside of the GPU and it's hot . I'd guess around 120F. As I look at it, this simple...

Mr. Panandic- I missed your post by about a minite or so. The Asus card uses this, so I can assume cooling the backside helps. Will this simple fix for any vid card in a OC' ing situation?

I asked this question about 3 years ago and got a mixed response. Will simply setting a elevated 3" fan over the backside of the GPU help cool it? I think it would for OC'ing. What do you think?

Thanks for the info! I really like my Viewsonic, actually I have 2 of them. A 20" full screen really appeals to me over a wide screen. BTW- Do these newer games only play in wide screen format?

I plan to build a i5 2500k, Z68, and a single HD 6870. However, I'm going to use my older Viewsonic 20" LCD 1440x1050 full screen monitor. Will the 6870 be overkill? I'll be playing games like Starcraft II, Crysis,etc.

Just p/u a HP...17", i3 Dual core(B950)2.1ghz,4gb DDR3 1033,500gb hd, USB 3.0,wcam,mic,etc....$349 at Office Depot. Works great!

I just downloaded and played the SC II demo and it played fine. However, during the download it said that my system was underpowered to play the game. Did it mean it was underpowered to play the retail version? Opteron 144@2.4 Asus AN8e 2gb Corsiar DDR 400@2224 1T Asus 9600GSO Viewsonic...

MSI military mobo's

OK, I know the durability of a component is the sum of it's parts and design, ie: It may have good caps, but bad power regulators. Is there any way one can tell if a component has good parts, or is there a review site that looks at components this way?

MSI military mobo's

While I was waiting for your replies, I did some more research. MSI doesn't elaborate on it's claim of military grade parts, and reviews show a lot of DOA's on recent purchases. I think I'll pass on this MSI mobo.

I noticed MSI is advertising military grade mobo's. They supposedly have high grade caps, a thicker board,etc. Is this true, or just a marketing scheme?

Xp taskbar problem

Every time I start my computer there's certain programs that load on my taskbar. Some I want, but some just refuse to be deleted no matter what I do. I've gone to Startup, Taskbar tools, etc. to delete them, but they still show on the taskbar when I reboot or start my computer.
