You only receive free long distance inside...
Voicestream will be available in California within the next few months. They'll be sharing Cingular's towers, so the coverage area will be the same as Cingular.
The new phone to look out for that's coming out is the Nokia 8390. They have the Samsung Q105 now available in their online store...

Shouldn't be too much of a problem to change your phone number. It will take between 2 and 24 hrs. to update in their system, though, and your service will probably be interrupted. You might have to re-setup your voice mailbox as...
Depends on what network you're messaging to. I agree it's best to do it from your VoiceStream phone, but if you want to do it over the web you can usually go to the network provider's web site.... Most have a section from which you can send SMS to their subscribers.

Just tried installing XP, and it screwed up my system. Can't boot into XP and can't reinstall 98 (what I had) b/c it gives me the error:
"Your hard drive might have a disk compression program installed."
So basically I'm screwed.
I wouldn't recommending loading XP RC1 just yet...

Those are GSM phones - won't work on Sprint. For GSM, I really like the Nokia 3390 :)

Unfortunately, store prices seem to be 30% more than the prices on-line.
I also had trouble finding a setting I like in the reputable stores.

It could either be that they didn't set up their VM box.
OR maybe they're forwarding the calls to another number - perhaps
a home phone without an answering machine. Call forwarding is
included with most plans these days.

The $50 Nomad deal was the reason I came over. Heard about it elsewhere and someone mentioned AnandTech. Used it for hot deals, until I couldn't spend any more money (needed to spend on my g/f). Now I lurk in OT, because Hot Deals would make me spend too much.

With Cingular (at least in the old Comcast Cellular areas), you can dial your area code, first 3 digits of your phone number, and 6245 (MAIL). Then you press * to get into your mailbox.
Also works with Voicestream.
I don't know about AT&T or Verizon, but it may be similar or the same.
