what are each of these temps

Are you running an X2? Those temps look similar to what I was getting with my X2 3800+. I gave up on temp2 and temp3 seeing as they seemed to swing about like nobody's business - only temp1 was anywhere near stable. I ended up using an app off of my mobo CD in the end, 'cos I was so unsure...

Scottws - thanks, I think i understand what you're saying ;) dBTelos - thanks, Managed to burn the image to my CD. This then booted fine. Unfortunately, GParted kept saying there were errors when it tried to resize my partition. No idea why, but anyway, since I was using a new install...

Thanks for all the replies - I liked the look of trying a GParted LiveCD, so have downloaded the ISO image onto my computer and have burned it to a CD (via both Nero Express and via XP itself on different discs). Unfortunately, the computer simply won't boot from these discs: I get a message...

Is it possible for me to create a partition on my exisiting harddrive given that I have performed a new install of XP on a new harddrive and didn't select "Create partition" during XP installation? When I go into Disk Manager I don't see an option for me to create a partition on my existing HD...

Setting core affinity

Using Windows XP Pro and an X2 3800+. I set the affinities through Task Manager but these settings seem to be cleared once I shut down and restart - is this normal? And is there any way to make them 'stick'? Thanks for your time! Richard

What mobo to choose for X2 3800 - Asus A8N-VM CSM or MSI K8NGM2-FID ?

will gma950 be able to handle full vista

I know in another thread there's been talk of how even Geforce 6600GT's struggle with some Vista-test versions (which, if true, would suggest an intel GMA950 would really struggle), but as MrChad says, until Vista specs are finalised, nobody can say with any certainty. Richard

Anyone here have experience with Foxconn mobos?

Hi Ken Let me first say I don't have Boomerang's greater experience having only attempted one build so far, but the Foxconn 6150 that I have now ended up with is soooooo much better than the Asus A8n-VM CSM pile of trash I first had. Boomer's experience with the BIOS was interesting to me...

Need help installing Windows XP Pro

The reason why Intel is better than AMD

I suspect the marginal cost of producing a chip (once the actual research & development expenditure is past/historic/sunk)is relatively small. That would certainly muddy the waters between whether something is being sold at or below cost - I would think that as long as the chip was being sold...

3800 X2 or Pentium D920

I am leaning towards the X2 3800 at the moment for the reason that it will end up being marginally cheaper (but frankly costwise it will be exceptionally close). I think whichever way I go, it will be a huge improvement over the 4.5 year old 800MHz Celeron I'm currently using ;-) Richard
