yes the VPN would be used mostly for RDP, ssh, browser based admin interfaces and maybe access some nfs/samba shares.
My main concern is with the cisco vpn client and its support on the linux distro.
am currently looking at lubuntu
I agree with your points about split tunnelling. Something about it just seems amiss though. But yes i will talk to the network guy again.
one of the reasons i thought a vm option would be attractive is because i could put in a lightweight linux vm which would hopefully be a lot less...
Hi guys I am trying to figure out an alternative to split tunnelling out cisco vpn software access as the network guy is concerned with the security risks.
The basic problem comes in when developers and other personnel use vpn to access remote datacenters and no longer have internet access...

Well he is more of an enthusiast and is interested in tinkering aorund with it. I tried convincing him to wait but to no avail. hence I am off on this quest.
based on where we are right now which router would be a safe bet. a least in terms of the notebook card and the router itself working...

one of the big items I am looking for but forgot to mention is support for IMAP.
doesnt look like the current version of google apps supports it.
all other hosts seem to have a similar set of features.

thansk for the reply. yeah I do have irfan view but does the horizontal flip let you specify degrees? The animation should look like its rotating so the base image and a horizontaly flipped image wouldnt make a great gif.
Anyways will check out what you just suggested.
UPDATE: just flips...

It didn't have any sound card before. nor on board sound. I didn't have any sound capability on that system. so essentially used to work great before I installed that sound card. slows down like crazy after that and reboots without any notice.
I remove the sound...
am using a really old dual p3 700 mhz 1 GB ram system at home for surfing. it used to work really great till I installed a sound card in it. It didn't have one before.

I think the crimper I have is pretty good. Problem is that it also kinda flattens out that tab which hinges the cable into its slot.
Thant kinda make its a loose fit in the jack. Kinda scary.
AFAIK the servers dont have any vernts on the top or the bottom and are built to be mounted without any space between them. Thats how most professional server setups are.
Termination for the KVM sounds like a great idea since its a non critical element.
Great feedback
So
1 All wires for any single server should be tied together as one group.
Questions
1 How do I leverage the wire at the corner of the server. e.g. If I have a wire coming out of the Ethernet port. I stretch the wire to the right end of the server and then take it up...
found one pic but thats from the front.

Have better pics of the mess at the back in my camera at home.
Will upload them later today.
Any links to a guide or procedure for doing this properly?

We have this rack for our small business which will be housing around 12 servers all of them 1U. Each server has 3 to 5 wired going into it.
Basically
1 for Ethernet. sometimes 2.
1 For power
1 for KVM
I tried setting it up and the results were horrendous. There are wires all...
Has he ever assemble don b4? Does he have help? Does he know the basics abt computer hardware?
If No just go for the brand name ones. Its not worth the hassle.
Though I would say for $ 550 you can get a dual core dell with a 17" LCD which would be better than the Sony.
I have found after extensive use of monitors from 15 " through 30 " the sweet spot for personal home use is 20 " WideScreen.
Unless you are into proffessional Graphics or other such stuff this is the best size for daily use.
Unless you are keen on learning and will take your time to research everything dont even bother building your own computer. You will spend more time getting it to work right than playing on it. Just buy a Dell E 510 in one of those dell delas for around $ 500 with monitor and slap a nice...
Once games start becoming SMP aware wouldnt each core dramatically improve performance.
Same goes with software too. Once software is built in a way that it will harness multiple cores to distribute tasks each additional core will speed up those applications.
I just ran this scenario by my girlfriend.
She says if ur gf is the goofy kinds she probably wont break up with u but there is a very good chance that she is gonna be scarred for a while and will get nightmares and all that shiat. One thing for sure u wont be laughing after it over.
peace :D
I have been following Dell deals for a while an anything above $ 800 is usually unrealistic.
With the right coupons I would say when a good deal does come up you should be able to get this easily for around $800 and yes including the 20 in widescreen LCD.
Hold off for a bit. Am sure dells...
The Encryption will probably slow it down.
Which gives me the idea. What ports does windows use for the Map Networking Drive feature?
Although enormously insecure that would probably work just fine over the internet.
Wow. I have been looking for something like this too since a while now and I havent found one decent solution which can stream videos over the internet.
It possible could be due to the fact that downloaded videos are in such varying formats that it might not be easy to stream them and have...
