XP vs Vista vs 7

Any way to "downgrade" to IE7 with Windows 7?

I can't imagine anything about IE7 you'd like that isn't featured in IE8. For me, the only thing IE7 has that IE8 doesn't is slowness.

Vista SP-2 is really faster for me !

Well I wouldn't have known that from using Vista x64 SP1 and Server 2008 x64. Server 2008 still feels much faster and responsive than my Vista x64 SP1 ever did (and others agree http://forum.notebookreview.co...owthread.php?t=242891)

To have a review, you need a working product. At this point in time, Catalyst 8.12 is officially worse off than the Core i7 motherboard launch BIOS situation, not least because ATI hasn't responded at all to widespread problems yet (see the ATI Catalyst forums). I'm still getting audio only...

I'm running a build less than 2 weeks old. I already have .NET 3.5 SP1 installed. And if I do have a so-called "codec conflict" you can be sure ATI is the one at fault since no other programs are broken.

Seagate HDD not detected by BIOS

I've been using one as my "data' hard drive for a week or so (still using a Maxtor 300gb for my two OS's) and it seems fine. I even have firmware SD17 and haven't had any of the supposed freeze issues yet (or maybe I just don't notice them because I'm not running RAID)

Aha. Found the problem. Airlink101 AWLH3028 PCI wireless adapter. I had this for all of 2 days installed, never even connected to a WiFi network, and it's broken. Hell, my AWLH3026 works fine but lacked Vista 64 drivers which was the only reason I bought the 3028..... Okay, problem solved.

It happens randomly a few times when the drive is turned on, then remains silent for a long time. It might happen again later. I don't have to be accessing the drive in Windows for it to happen. What gives?

Or, you can install TweakUI from the Microsoft XP Powertoys and turn on the Autologon option. You can even do that with a passworded account (so the only time the password needs to be entered is after you've locked your computer or resumed from standby / whatever). I'm never using the...

Newest Nvidia drivers:

I found that 174.12 works for my Vista x64 and 8600GT, so I never bothered upgrading to 174.16 or newer, especially since the newer sets seem to have more BSOD reports.

Catalyst 8.1 are out!!

I thought that, traditionally, you had to download a separate, ~500kb uninstaller from ATI, to uninstall the Catalyst Drivers. May be wrong though.

Who has better Vista x64 drivers? nVidia or ATi?

I've never tried an ATI card in my Vista x64 system, but NVIDIA's drivers work great for me and my 8600GT.
