Some basic dsl/networking questions

I got it figured out. The desktop computer is running ZoneAlarm. I went into ZoneAlarm to specify a Trusted Zone IP range for my entire LAN. With that, my laptop's Network Places recognizes the Shared Folder right away.

Good deal on a Thinkpad?? $983

I would say it's a 'Hot Deal'. IBM Thinkpads are well-built machines, and this laptop comes with quite a lot of extras ..... DVD, Win2K, 56k modem, NIC, PIII processor, 15" screen. To be certain, I'd recommend waiting for ROSSman to respond - He is known for his deep knowledge concerning laptops. ;)

I work as a customer support agent for AT&T@Home, and it seems like I get so many angry calls from customers who suffers intermittent downtimes and also various billing problems. I guess it all depends on how reliable your service area is, if you are in an area that has terrible...

What's the best deal on a pre-built PC system ? (It's for an older user, I prefer self-built)

I would like to know if anybody can tell me what's the best deal currently out there on pre-made PC systems ? Would it be the $799 Dell advertised on TV, or one of those Gateway pricematch promotion or whatever ... It's for an older friend who is unable to buy parts to build his own machine. :)...

The e-mail account at www.com is provided through BigMailBox. I believe BigMailBox is a similar company as Everyone.net Hence, my guess is the e-mail account will NOT be POP3 compliant. It is specifically a web-based e-mail account. Hope this helps. :)

Is 1 Year of MSN for $65 a deal?

Among the Free ISPs mentioned above, a few of them have gone belly-up. FreeInternet.com and FreeAtLast are no longer in operation. In addition, AltaVista plus the rest of the co-branded 1stUp Free ISPs are also destined to bite the dust pretty soon. It's sad but I sure hope NetZero can continue...

Abit BE-6 and RAM problem.

O.K., now the modules are detected. I switched the positions around: 128MB goes to DIMM slot #1, and 256MB goes to DIMM slot #2. I will be 'burning them in' to see if they can remain stable through repeated boots.

Network Card causing internet access problem !!! HELP !!!
