    Some basic dsl/networking questions

I got it figured out. The desktop computer is running ZoneAlarm. I went into ZoneAlarm to specify a Trusted Zone IP range for my entire LAN. With that, my laptop's Network Places recognizes the Shared Folder right away.

    Some basic dsl/networking questions

I have a Wireless Router connected directly to the DSL modem. There are 4 Wired ethernet LAN ports as well, and I have a WinXP desktop wired into LAN port #1. Now, here is the problem ..... I have designated a special folder, and allowed all-access sharing in the properties. When I bring a...

Good deal on a Thinkpad?? $983

I would say it's a 'Hot Deal'. IBM Thinkpads are well-built machines, and this laptop comes with quite a lot of extras ..... DVD, Win2K, 56k modem, NIC, PIII processor, 15" screen. To be certain, I'd recommend waiting for ROSSman to respond - He is known for his deep knowledge concerning laptops. ;)

What's the best deal on a pre-built PC system ? (It's for an older user, I prefer self-built)

Wow !! Looks like Dell is way ahead in positive customer feedback thus far. How about some other big-league players like HP and Compaq ?

Anybody with 'first-hand experience' on DSL vs. Cable Modem ?

I work as a customer support agent for AT&T@Home, and it seems like I get so many angry calls from customers who suffers intermittent downtimes and also various billing problems. I guess it all depends on how reliable your service area is, if you are in an area that has terrible...

What's the best deal on a pre-built PC system ? (It's for an older user, I prefer self-built)

I would like to know if anybody can tell me what's the best deal currently out there on pre-made PC systems ? Would it be the $799 Dell advertised on TV, or one of those Gateway pricematch promotion or whatever ... It's for an older friend who is unable to buy parts to build his own machine. :)...

    Free Netzero Platinum(this weekend only)

To be honest, I would support NetZero's cause for 'cheap' internet access. I know, I know ..... they are supposed to be the 'Defender of the Free World'. Well, Baby Bob was also supposed to be providing free internet access while Freei.net was flying high. Times have changed over the past 8-10...

Ideas to defeat Microsoft ... (Not a bashing thread !)

breathesomesteak: I respect your response because it comes with tackiness and class. Here is my answer to your question why ... Microsoft is indeed a good company run by very strong executives. I am not denying that. The reason I started this thread is NOT to bash. Nor do I expect the other...

Ideas to defeat Microsoft ... (Not a bashing thread !)

For those who feel that Microsoft is taking control over too much of our computing and internet life ..... Here is my contribution to some possible ways against the mighty MS: The root of the problem lies in the fact that almost everybody's PC runs the Windows OS platform. Therefore, if AOL...

The e-mail account at www.com is provided through BigMailBox. I believe BigMailBox is a similar company as Everyone.net Hence, my guess is the e-mail account will NOT be POP3 compliant. It is specifically a web-based e-mail account. Hope this helps. :)

Free $15 GC w/ Free ISP Signup (Spiegel)

I don't think Spiegel is offering Free ISP service anymore. Spinway, which runs the service, and co-branded by Spiegel ..... went belly-up sometime in November or December last year. That is probably why the program download and the registration process ran into a dead-end for all of you. As...

Hot - Color Handspring Visor Prism $449-$200 mail-in at CompUSA B&M

Well, RossMAN ..... I guess that's why casinos make good money. There will always be gamblers. :) Some gamblers feel that they have a chance to win small, some feel that they can win big, and some are just happy to break even. But of course, nobody wants to lose any money, even though they know...

    Buy.com DOTD Kingston Valueram 256MB PC100 $95.95 11-15 Rebate

I pretty much share the same sentiments in regards to this issue. First of all, MIR is a professional liar's way to scam the consumers from the get-go. Second of all, why do they always request that you fax them this and fax them that when they should in fact have everything you sent them in the...

    128MB Kingston PC100 Value Ram 59.99 - $10 coupon - ($20MIR) = 29.99 onvia

Just a reminder about the MIR: If you have claimed for any Kingston rebates recently, whether it be at Buy.com, OutPost or anywhere else ..... this deal might not work for you. Kingston has a pretty strict policy regarding 1 rebate per person/household per address. So, make sure you're not...

Is 1 Year of MSN for $65 a deal?

Among the Free ISPs mentioned above, a few of them have gone belly-up. FreeInternet.com and FreeAtLast are no longer in operation. In addition, AltaVista plus the rest of the co-branded 1stUp Free ISPs are also destined to bite the dust pretty soon. It's sad but I sure hope NetZero can continue...

    PM Deal HandSpring Visor $110

wmvink: I believe the Visor Deluxe uses ROM instead of Flash Memory. The PalmOS for the Visor will be upgradeable through SpringBoard modules and patches. However, you won't be able to completely switched over to a completely new PalmOS version. I can't think of any reasons that you would need...

    PM Deal HandSpring Visor $110

wmvink: HandSpring Visors run on the exact same OS as all the Palms. If the PalmOS has a new release, virtually every PDA running the PalmOS can get an OS upgrade. It shouldn't matter whether you own a Palm or a Visor per se. They function pretty much in a similar fashion for the user. As such...

    PM Deal HandSpring Visor $110

The RAM issue is certainly a big factor. Seeing that my PC just got a new slab of 256MB RAM for under $100. That's less than $0.40 per MB. If the PDA devices follow that same pricing structure, the Visor Deluxe should only cost around $3.00 more !!! However, the problem might lie in the fact...

    Abit BE-6 and RAM problem.

O.K., now the modules are detected. I switched the positions around: 128MB goes to DIMM slot #1, and 256MB goes to DIMM slot #2. I will be 'burning them in' to see if they can remain stable through repeated boots.

Well, the way I see it ..... Crucial is playing games with us. They are fluctuating the price and that's not cool at all. Network Card causing internet access problem !!! HELP !!!

I have checked my modem and it works fine, therefore this is most likely not a hardware problem. It is also most likely not a problem with individual applications, like IE, ICQ and so on, because they all don't work ! My guess is that it has something to do with the DUN, DNS or TCP/IP because...
