actually for the same performance, at this moment the dual core athlons are cheaper to build than the dual core p4s.
the athlon 64 x2 4200+ performs better than the pentium-d 840 and they cost around the same. But, the mobo for the athlon is about $100 cheaper at the moment.

Good idea, but he already has the box/hole in the wall, so that would only take up more space. Those are made for places w/o boxes and where you don't want/can't put a hole in the wall like he has already.

is this for a business and an important cable run?
if that is the case, i would suggest running fiber for any kind of uplink.
(fiber isn't ungodly expensive if you run it for specific runs)

not to reiterate this or anything, but almost all routers can NOT be used as a bridge. You would need to get a product capable of that. Most standalone access points can be configured to do this as well as all wireless bridges (duh... lol).
