    Yes, still with the ticket
  2. How would you make this shot?

as has already been said, more depth of field. this requires more lighting, obviously. with the extra lighting, put a fill panel below and to her left. the subject should be mostly shadows.
  3. double clutching doesn't seem to make a difference

the syncho on 2nd gear in my G35 doesn't work that well when it's cold, so I double-clutch only after a cold start
  4. how does hill hold work on a manual car?

and it'd be even easier with hill hold. if you drive a manual, you should know this.

  9. Aftermarket modifications to crappy cars - Why?

Piddly mods are lame. An early '90s Civic that has a well tuned aftermarket suspension and racing tires is amazingly fast around an autocross course.

  11. How to upgrade from Outlook 2007 to Outlook 2010?

I just upgraded from Office 2007 to 2010. No need to uninstall, just upgrade. Everything came over just fine. OneNote notebooks and everything in Outlook (email accounts, calendar, contacts, favorites, rules, all of it) works without lifting a finger to update anything.
  12. anyone prefers to sleep on the floor?

Sleeping on the floor or other hard surface always gives me a crook in my back or neck when I wake up in the morning, and it's never restful. My preferred bedding now that I've been through college is a 1" foam pad on top of a firm mattress. Just the right balance of cushion and support.
  13. Are there any I-6 cars left in production?

    I miss the Jeep 4.0
  14. YAGT: Which .22 for target practice? (Handgun)

A friend who has the Ruger MkII says that it's a PITA to disassemble.
  15. How hard can it be to be to find a G37? UPDATE

Good to hear; I'm hoping mine lasts for quite a while. Nice pick on the 335i though.
  16. Your dream "everyday driver" car.

    M5. End. Of. Story.
  17. Best color for a motorcycle, safety wise and looks decent

School-bus yellow. It's that color for a reason. Not that it'll matter much for a motorcycle, though. School buses are gigantic slabs of yellow. If you can't see a motorcycle, then you just plain can't see it.
  18. How hard can it be to be to find a G37? UPDATE

A 6MT sedan will be. I got lucky finding my '06 used.
  19. iPhone Signal Strength: RF engineer's perspective

Ok, so that's all well and good under ideal conditions. But as soon as you approach the lower limit of reception that the antenna stack (antenna, amplifiers, controllers) can handle, then the added burden of a detuned antenna can push you below that lower limit and drop the connection. Anand's...
  20. Zoomar 180mm f/1.3, 240mm f/1.2 and 250mm f/1.3

well for starters the depth of field must be only an inch or two, and the coma must be absurd
  21. Do you prefer physical or virtual keyboard on a phone?

Dudes, this thread needs a poll. Like, seriously, a yes/no question = poll on the forums. Anyhow, on topic, the HTC Touch Pro 2 keyboard was the best. I'm still waiting for HTC to bring it back on an Android phone.
  22. Replaced spark plugs. Engine jumps between 500 and 1000 rpm when i let go of gas?

clock/radio had a built-in battery to save them.
  23. Buying a Stick Shift

<-- '06 Infiniti G35 6MT owner/driver I have only driven in stop-and-go traffic once in my car. It was annoying enough that I moved my seat forwards to make the clutch pedal effort easier, and after a few minutes proceeded to get off at the next exit to take surface roads instead. Stop-and-go...
  24. veyron vs. cr-v?

    I chuckled
  25. Where online to buy used vehicle for good price?

Carmax is really straightforward and easy, but if you're ok to haggle then you'll get a lower price elsewhere.
  26. Bike Rack Suggestions

I've never had a problem with trunk racks. Easy mount/dismount of both the rack onto the car and the bike onto the rack. Just a few straps and you're done. It doesn't scratch the trunk unless you do it wrong.
  27. A/C fan speed effect on MPG?

Lower voltage over the same resistance equals lower current. Power = volts * current = (current^2) * resistance = (voltage^2) / resistance, so lower voltage and lower current equals lower power equals lower fan speed.
  28. Should I use the parking brake when parking in an automatic?

If parked on level or nearly-level ground then I just use the pawl in the transmission (put the automatic transmission in Park). If I'm on a hill then I turn the wheels according to which way I'm facing, put the parking/hand brake on, put the transmission in Park, and then take my foot off the...
  29. Nikon or Canon

Disclaimer: I'm a Nikon shooter. Lenses are at parity between Canon and Nikon. Both companies make lenses that their competitor's users drool over. Both companies' pro lenses are, well, pro lenses and are suitably amazing. As a Nikon shooter who is very familiar with Nikon's lens lineup, I...
  30. Why doesn't everything use high voltage power?

Misconceptions abound in this thread. Lemme try and clear some up: 1) It is more efficient to transmit power long distances at high voltage and low current than low voltage and high current. The heat losses in an electrical line result from current conduction, not voltage, so less current...
  31. Verilog assign statement help

A little Verilog question that has been driving me up the wall: why does the following code produce undefined values in the assign statement and correct values in the display statement? assign cache_uid = (transmit_uid & {uidw{transmit}}) | (receive_write_uid & {uidw{receive}}) |...
  32. autocrossed the G35

Heh, I plan on staying in the Novice category and continue listening to people at the track who are better than me.
  33. Nikon or Canon

/obligatory_Nikon_fanboy_plug I <3 my D90. But IMO, you're should shift some of your money from the body to buy lenses instead. A D5000 with 35mm f/1.8 is going to get you massively better concert shots than a D90 with the 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6. The sensors are the same between those two...
  34. autocrossed the G35

5000 miles per year on his M3. I didn't get any videos or pictures since we were both driving in the same group (novice). The suspension on the car can't really go any lower without becoming a problem during daily driving. A set of R-compound sticky tires would be nice, but another set of...
  35. autocrossed the G35

Whoo that was a fun five laps. Had my first time autocrossing in my new-to-me car that I got a month ago. It's a stock '06 Infiniti G35 sedan 6MT. I didn't spin out anywhere, I didn't DNF, but I learned the embarassing soft-rubber-cone way to brake before instead of during the turn or suffer...

  37. Wasn't Mercedes supposed to be cleaning up their ridiculous naming schemes?

first letter = class (C, E, S) second letter = coupe or not (L or blank) third letter = convertible or not (K or blank) e.g. a C-class convertible coupe is CLK. Then Mercedes borked it and made the CLS slot above the E-class in price. And called the M-class "ML".
